Summer has arrived, and our pets notice the heat just like we do. In Palatka, temperatures often reach the 90s, so it’s important to protect your pets from heat-related problems. Try to keep them indoors during the hottest hours, always give them cool, fresh water, and make sure outdoor pets have shade to rest in. If the pavement feels too hot for your hand, it’s also too hot for your pet’s paws. With a few simple steps, we can keep our pets safe all summer long.

Today, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering determination of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

Their bravery helped secure the freedoms we enjoy today and serves as a lasting reminder that freedom is never free.

The Professional Firefighters of Palatka Local 2992 proudly honor the heroes of D-Day and all who have served our nation.

🇺🇸 Today is D-Day, a day to honor our heroes 82 years ago on June 6, 1944. Please take a moment to remember all who sacrificed on this day for our freedom. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 During World War II, the Battle of Normandy, which lasted from June 1944 to August 1944, resulted in the Allied liberation of Western Europe from N**i Germany’s control. Codenamed Operation Overlord, the battle began on June 6, 1944, also known as D-Day, when some 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history and required extensive planning. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 Prior to D-Day, the Allies conducted a large-scale deception campaign designed to mislead the Germans about the intended invasion target. By late August 1944, all of northern France had been liberated, and by the following spring the Allies had defeated the Germans. The Normandy landings have been called the beginning of the end of war in Europe. 🇺🇸

🔥 WHY CURRENT FIRE CODES MATTER 🔥

Communities are constantly evolving—and so are the risks they face. Adopting and enforcing the most current fire and life safety codes helps ensure that buildings, businesses, and public spaces are designed and maintained to protect lives, property, and first responders.

Modern fire codes are based on lessons learned from real-world incidents, advancements in technology, and proven safety practices. They help reduce fire risk, improve emergency access, strengthen building resilience, and enhance occupant safety.

By embracing current fire codes, communities are making an investment in prevention, preparedness, and public safety.

✅ Safer Buildings
✅ Stronger Communities
✅ Better Protection for Occupants and First Responders
✅ Increased Resilience Against Emergencies

Fire codes save lives—and keeping them current helps ensure we’re prepared for the challenges of today and tomorrow.
