Today, our Safety Patrollers spent the day exploring some of our nation’s most significant landmarks while learning about the leaders, events, and sacrifices that helped shape American history. They visited the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, and Jefferson Memorial, taking time to learn about their lasting impact on America. They then were able to head over to Pentagon where they visited the Pentagon Memorial, and were able to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001. While there, they were also able to witness a funeral procession for a fallen officer who had served as a first responder during 9/11, making the experience especially meaningful and memorable. They continued their day with a walk around the Capitol Building before exploring the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, where they discovered artifacts and stories that highlight the people, events, and innovations that have shaped our country.

Today’s adventures took our Safety Patrol students through some of the most meaningful and historic sites in Washington, D.C. They started their day outside the Capitol building to take the group photo. They reflected on the sacrifices made at the World War II Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and Korean War Veterans Memorial. They then went to the iconic Lincoln Memorial and then headed over to honor our fallen officers at the National Law Enforcement Memorial. They also visited Lincoln Park, home to memorials honoring both Abraham Lincoln and Mary McLeod Bethune. They concluded the day at Mount Vernon, where they explored the home and legacy of George Washington. It was a day filled with history, remembrance, and a deeper appreciation for the people who helped shape our nation.
