🌟 Inwood Business Spotlight: Select Concrete 🌟

Select Concrete was founded in 2005 and is owned by Scott Blom, with Chad Blom and Dave Lange each holding a 20% ownership interest. They employ about 10 year round and have up to 30 seasonal employees. Select Concrete does foundations for dairy cattle, grain elevators, shops, houses, community centers, scales, decorative concrete, streets, and pretty much anything that is made of concrete.

Scott partnered with Andy Koedam and Joel Leusink to develop the new Southside Industrial Park in Inwood. The three developers are currently working on the project. Commercial lots are available, and if you are interested, you may contact Scott.

Faces of Inwood: Meet Zach and Kiya Liesinger

Growing up, I spent most weekends in and around Inwood and spent a majority of my summers here. When the opportunity arose to buy a house in Inwood in 2020, I didn't hesitate to jump on the opportunity.

Inwood has always felt like home and has always been a welcoming community, and I've been fortunate enough to become a part of this wonderful community, where my children and I feel safe. Everyone is so friendly and always so willing to help each other out in a time of need. There are so many great programs and events that Inwood has created that really make this town extraordinary!

Let’s celebrate the amazing people who make our city so special!

For those who aren't able to drive by every day, I wanted to capture a little of the work being done at the Community Center site.

Lots of heavy equipment. Remnants, rubble, and dirt. Progress is underway!

Come enjoy a great meal for a great cause. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 5-7 pm.

Such a blessing to have this opportunity for our kids.

Thank you to all of the volunteers, staff, sponsors and everyone who helps make this possible.

What a summer! We officially wrapped up our summer programs last week, and we couldn't be more grateful for such an incredible season.

This summer by the numbers:

59 kids hit the field for ball, supported by 15+ dedicated volunteers!

33 kids joined the Inwood Kids Club, led by 4 awesome team members!

Kids Club had an absolute blast with summer swimming, park days, games, movies at West Mall 7, and exciting field trips to Siouxnami, Jacobson Park, and Air Madness!

A massive thank you to the City of Inwood and the Inwood Iowa First Reformed Church for generously letting us use their facilities. And to our sponsors—thank you for your incredible support in making this summer one to remember!

We can't wait to see everyone again next year!

🌟 Back to School Spotlight: Inwood Christian School 🌟

Inwood Christian School (ICS) was established in 1948 and has proudly served the Inwood community for 78 years. ICS will serve students in Preschool through 8th grade, welcoming 31 families and 74 students for the 2026–2027 school year.

ICS is led by Principal Pete Van Velzen and Head Teacher Amy Stearns. We are blessed with an amazing staff of seven teachers and two para-educators who will serve in our classrooms this year. All together, they will have over 45 years of experience that they will be bringing into our classrooms. Our wonderful cook, Cristina, will once again prepare delicious breakfasts and lunches for our students each day. We are also excited to welcome a new staff member, Ashley Van Dieren, as our administrative assistant. Ashley has been working at the school since July, helping prepare for the new school year, and we are grateful for all she has already contributed.

This is our third year following our theme of Believe, Grow, Serve and learning through our life verses. We believe that a Christian's life begins with believing in Jesus Christ and His Word, continues with growing in faith each day throughout our lives, and leads us to go out into the world to serve others. Our life verses have been carefully chosen and will follow a three-year rotation, giving all of our students the opportunity to memorize and carry these verses with them throughout their lives. Our hope is that these verses will encourage them in both good times and difficult seasons, reminding them that God is always with them and walking beside them. We are so grateful to be able to partner with our families and the community in the upbringing of these children.

Over the past few years, our school has also experienced a wonderful interior renovation. We have upgraded the flooring, lighting, ceilings, and wall paint, creating a warm, welcoming, and inviting environment where our students can learn and grow. Each classroom enjoys top of the line technology, with a one-to-one ratio of chromebooks or tablets for each student.
We are excited to begin another school year at Inwood Christian School and are grateful for the opportunity to partner with families as we encourage our students to Believe, Grow, and Serve.

Let’s celebrate the schools, staff, and students who make our community such a special place to learn and grow!

Thank you, Inwood Christian School, for being such a valued part of the Inwood community and for all you do for our students and families!
