October is National Protect Your Hearing Month!

Did you know that noises that are too loud for too long can cause permanent hearing loss? From concerts and sporting events to power tools and loud headphones, noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) can affect anyone—kids, teens, and adults.

The good news? NIHL is 100% preventable.
Here are simple ways to protect your hearing:
• Lower the volume
• Move away from loud noise
• Wear earplugs or earmuffs during noisy activities
• Protect children’s ears
• Spread the word about noise hazards

Let’s work together to keep our hearing healthy for life.

October is National Dental Hygiene Month! Dental hygienists play an important role in preventing oral disease, providing education and helping people maintain healthy smiles throughout their lives.

You can support your oral health every day by brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between your teeth daily, limiting foods and drinks with added sugar, and visiting a dental professional regularly.

This month, MDHHS recognizes dental hygienists across Michigan and the important work they do to improve oral health in our communities.

Visit https://www.nidcr.nih.gov/health-info/oral-hygiene for oral hygiene tips.
