Here’s what crews are working on around the county today:

📍 Orleans Township — Preparing roads for dust control

📍 Orange Township — Gravel resurfacing

📍 Danby Township — Drainage improvements on Tupper Lake Road between Brown and Murtha roads, and on Cutler Road between I-96 and Clintonia Road

📍 Townsend Road and Kelsey Highway — Asphalt wedging at the intersection

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE — WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19 🚧

Fourth Street between East Main Street and M-21 will be closed on Wednesday, August 19, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for hot mastic repairs in preparation for a chip seal later this year.

Hot mastic is used to fill larger cracks and repair deteriorated areas, helping keep water out and prevent further damage. Completing these repairs before chip sealing provides a stronger, smoother surface and helps extend the life of the roadway.

Please use an alternate route and allow extra travel time. Thank you for your patience!

📢 Public Meeting: 2027 M-66 Rebuilding Project

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), in partnership with the City of Ionia, invites the public to learn more about the planned 2027 rebuilding of M-66 (State Street) from Tuttle Road north to Wells Street.

📅 Wednesday, August 19, 2026
⏰ 5:00–7:00 p.m.
📍 Ionia Middle School – Watt Auditorium
438 Union St., Ionia

Project overview presentations will be held at 5:10 and 6:10 p.m. You may stop by at any time during the meeting to review project information, speak with MDOT staff, and provide comments.

The project includes:

• Rebuilding M-66 from Tuttle Road to Wells Street
• Stormwater infrastructure upgrades
• Improvements to the Grand River bridge
• Culvert replacement south of Riverside Drive
• A new nonmotorized facility from Tuttle Road north to the Grand River bridge
• Information about construction scheduling and traffic maintenance

The nonmotorized facility will provide space for people walking and biking between Ionia and areas south of the city, including connections to schools along Tuttle Road.

The Ionia County Road Department is accepting applications for a full-time Transportation Maintenance Worker.

This union position performs a variety of road maintenance activities, including heavy equipment operation and manual labor.

Qualifications include:

Michigan Unrestricted Class A CDL with air brakes
Current medical certification card
“N” tanker endorsement, or the ability to obtain one
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
Availability to work overtime and be on call during nights, weekends, and holidays
Heavy equipment experience is helpful

Starting wage: $29.12 per hour
