Cpl. Matthew Richard Memorial Foundation

Cpl. Matthew Richard Memorial Foundation Serving our local and national military community by preserving patriotism and providing financial aid to those in need. The Cpl. Matthew Richard Memorial Foundation is formed in an effort to ensure that the sacrifices made by Cpl.

Matthew Richard, USMC and all who serve our country with pride: past, present and future - are never forgotten. Matthew often reflected the characteristics of love, compassion, respect and self-discipline in all that he did and with all whom he met. Matthew gave his life demonstrating these very same characteristics as he protected his brothers in Afghanistan. Matthew's sacrifice represents the same sacrifice thousands of men and women who serve must endure. It is our intention to continue Matthew's legacy through the mission of this foundation.

2/8 lost a marine to suicide last week. One we knew personally. One who showed his selflessness as he met us in Dover to await Matthew’s arrival in the US, only 4 months after he himself was wounded. Part of our mission is to raise awareness of the needs of our veterans. While they are home from war, the battle is not done for most. Please keep our veterans in prayer. This message is from their LtCol.

A message for the 2/8 2011 Marines from LtCol Harrill.

Greetings from Gosport, United Kingdom where I have just run 5k in memory of US Marine Cpl. Matthew Richard. I also ran to support his parents Jeff and Alicia and whole Richard family, and to honour the service and sacrifice of all the Marines of the 2/8 and their families. I look forward to joining you in Iota in 2021. It took my battered knees 28m 35 seconds to run the distance I will try and do better in Louisiana:-)

Big shout out to all our wonderful and faithful sponsors! We couldn’t do it without you. And to all you private sponsors...

Tomorrow starts our virtual run. Please join us in remembering Matthew and all who gave their lives in service to our country. Keeping social distancing in mind, run or take a walk with your families, in your home or around your neighborhood. Post a picture, your time (if you desire) and/or share a memory of Matthew if you knew him.

Governor Edwards has extended the "stay-at-home" order until April 30th. Our hope and prayers are for the safety of the community and the world in general.

We have decided to transition the Cpl. Matthew Richard Memorial Annual 5K Run/Walk into a "virtual 5K". For those interested in participating, the "virtual 5K" will consist of registering and simply getting out on your own timeframe with social distancing in mind (neighborhood, yard or treadmill - safety first) for a run or walk and post pictures and your time to the Cpl. Matthew Richard Memorial Foundation FaceBook page. We look forward to virtually seeing everyone having fun and enjoying a blessed day.

Registration and shirt orders can still be placed via the website. Shirts will be mailed soon to those already registered and after April 25th for registrations received after April 6th. There will not be any late fee for registrations received after April 6th.

If you have any questions or previously registered and would like a refund, please contact us directly.

We greatly appreciate everyone's support and love. While we may not be able to physically be together on April 25th, let us demonstrate that in the face of adversity we are still able to be family in a virtual way!

03/29/2020

With four weeks to the Cpl. Matthew Richard Memorial Annual 5K Run/Walk, we are actively monitoring the status of the COVID-19 virus and the need for social distancing. We hope everyone is safe and healthy amid this pandemic. For now, the annual 5K is still planned for April 25th!

In the event the "shelter-in-place" order (i.e., social distancing) is extended beyond April 13th, we will not be able to host the 5K in Iota as usual. We will still offer memorial t-shirts and possibly a virtual 5k (to be determined - wear your t-shirt on the treadmill or around your home) for those who want to participate from a distance.

We graciously appreciate all the support shown to the annual 5K and hope the world can get back to normal as soon as possible.

Please sign up to run as well as place your shirt orders.

We have made a change to the t-shirt. The color will be denim blue. Link for ordering in comments.

Today’s Veterans’ lunch was a great success. We had a full house. Thank you to all who came out to help and to those who sent desserts. We couldn’t do this without the generous support of our community.

A special thank you to all veterans. In our family and among our friends, your willingness to serve and sacrifice does not go unnoticed. THANK YOU!

11/02/2019

Next Saturday is our Veterans’ luncheon. If anyone would like to show their appreciation for our veterans by making a dessert, we would love to get about 10-12 desserts.

We would like to thank everyone who came out yesterday and helped make another successful run. We are so blessed and our hearts are full from all the love and support shown by our family, friends, and the community. We could not do this without all the volunteers who put in many hours of hard work and all the participants and runners who come out year after year.
