Forty-five years ago, somebody in Iowa City decided older adults deserved a place of their own downtown. That place is still here, and on Thursday, September 17, we are taking it to the Englert.
45 Years of Community is a showcase of what actually happens inside the Senior Center every single week. The New Horizons Band. The calligraphy table where two people bend over the same sheet of paper for an hour. The disc golfers who play in whatever weather Iowa hands them. The folks who show up in sequins and stay until the lights come up. One night, one stage, all of it.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Showtime is 6:30 p.m. Reception is right after in the Upper Lounge, so plan to stay and talk.
It is free. Every seat.
Here is my ask. Pick one person who has never walked through our doors. Your neighbor. Your mom. The coworker who still thinks a senior center is a waiting room. Invite them to sit next to you on the 17th.
