Actual improvements in Iowa's waters are going to take real investment from ALL stakeholders- they're not going to happen magically because the Governor decided to unilaterally make one good gesture today.

This is a start. A very small start, but one I want to acknowledge and build on for the health and future of ALL Iowans.

STATEMENT: IOWA HOUSE DEMOCRATS APPLAUD INCLUSION OF THEIR WATER QUALITY PRIORITIES IN NEW LAW

Joint Statement from State Representative Austin Baeth, State Representative Kenan Judge, Rep. Elinor A. Levin, and State Rep. Mary Madison:

“Iowans have been asking us to take action to clean up our waterways. Earlier this year, Iowa House Democrats introduced a comprehensive plan to clean up Iowa’s water through stronger investments, better monitoring, and partnerships with farmers. We’re encouraged to see parts of that vision reflected in this legislation, but there is still much more work to do. While this additional funding is a step in the right direction, it falls far short of the bold action needed to address Iowa’s water crisis.

Clean water is essential to Iowa’s health, economy, and future, and we must continue working together to make it a top priority.”

In 2010, Iowans voted for a constitutional amendment to create the Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund, a permanent and protected funding source dedicated to clean water, productive agricultural soils and thriving wildlife habitat. Yet 16 years later — despite growing support and a growing need — the fund remains empty.

It's time to Fund the Trust.

This summer, meetings will be held across the state to bring people together around this important issue. Gather to learn more about the Trust Fund's quality of life and economic impacts, connect with other Iowans over shared values, and be part of the grassroots effort to move this forward. We hope to see you there.

Friday update: local food supporters are everywhere 🍅

We are now at 222 participants and $251,875 committed toward Iowa-grown food this season.

Every dot on this map represents someone choosing to make Iowa-grown food part of their routine, whether that means farmers market trips, local meat, eggs, flowers, restaurant meals, CSA boxes, coffee, or one more Iowa-grown ingredient each week.

This Challenge is helping make local food support more visible across the state.

Already buying local? Join anyway. Your participation helps show the strength of Iowa’s local food movement.

I am absolutely honored to be recognized as a Principled Candidate in 2026 by Civics Credentialing.

I've signed on to the Principles for Trusted Elections in every election I've run because we need a "growing, cross-partisan movement working to restore trust in U.S. elections through shared principles, civic education, and community-based action."
