Actual improvements in Iowa's waters are going to take real investment from ALL stakeholders- they're not going to happen magically because the Governor decided to unilaterally make one good gesture today.
This is a start. A very small start, but one I want to acknowledge and build on for the health and future of ALL Iowans.
STATEMENT: IOWA HOUSE DEMOCRATS APPLAUD INCLUSION OF THEIR WATER QUALITY PRIORITIES IN NEW LAW
Joint Statement from State Representative Austin Baeth, State Representative Kenan Judge, Rep. Elinor A. Levin, and State Rep. Mary Madison:
“Iowans have been asking us to take action to clean up our waterways. Earlier this year, Iowa House Democrats introduced a comprehensive plan to clean up Iowa’s water through stronger investments, better monitoring, and partnerships with farmers. We’re encouraged to see parts of that vision reflected in this legislation, but there is still much more work to do. While this additional funding is a step in the right direction, it falls far short of the bold action needed to address Iowa’s water crisis.
Clean water is essential to Iowa’s health, economy, and future, and we must continue working together to make it a top priority.”
