ICPD Spotlight: Officer Arno Sindelar

"Officer Arno Sindelar grew up in Marion, Iowa and graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 2019. He went to Kirkwood Community College for two years and transferred to Mount Mercy University where he obtained a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and a Minor in Psychology in 2023.

In December 2023, he was hired by the Iowa City Police Department. In his free time he enjoys being around friends and family, watching movies, and playing video games. His favorite Iowa City food is at Estellas."

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to 703 calls for service in May 2026.

These calls include:

- 359 Emergency Medical Service calls (falls, illness, breathing problems, etc.)
- 22 Fire calls (cooking, vegetation, structure, etc.)
- 12 Rescue calls (Elevator, confined space, vehicle extrication/entrapment)
- 73 Public Service Calls (Lift assists, smoke alarms, citizen assists)
- 26 Hazardous Situations (Vehicle crash, gas leak/odor, smoke investigation, etc.)
- 209 Calls in which no emergency was found or firefighters were canceled en route
