Pedestrian Injured in Hit-and-Run Collision in Solon

JOHNSON COUNTY, IA, August 28, 2026 -On August 27, 2026, at 8:05 p.m. the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and emergency services responded to single vehicle versus pedestrian collision in the 4200 block of 180th St NE, Solon. Witnesses reported a vehicle struck a pedestrian walking alongside the road.
The vehicle did not stop and left the accident scene. The victim, Brian Vincent, 40, Solon, was transported by air ambulance to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with serious life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle has since been identified. This investigation is ongoing.

The crash is under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. The Iowa State Patrol, Solon Fire Department, North Liberty Fire Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, University of Iowa AirCare assisted with this incident.

Drivers can decrease the likelihood of accidents by slowing down, ditching distractions, and paying attention to traffic shifts.

140 crashes were reported between Forevergreen Road and the Linn County line from April 1 through July 30.

Travel Advisory for Saturday, August 15

The Core 4 bike race will be taking place throughout Johnson County on Saturday, August 15. Cyclists will be traveling on and crossing various roadways, with the highest activity expected along Highway 1 between Solon and Iowa City.
Motorists may encounter riders on shoulders, at intersections, and on shared travel lanes. Please remain alert for cyclists and use caution if driving on or near the race route.
The route loops through both rural and metro areas.
A map of the course is included with this message for reference.
The racers will be active from 6 AM Saturday morning until 11 PM Saturday night.

The first day of school will be here soon....time for a quick refresher on knowing when to stop, and when you can pass school buses!

2 or 3-Lane Roads:
Approaching from behind the bus:
- When you see flashing red or amber warning lights, you are not permitted to pass the school bus and should be prepared to stop.
- When the school bus stops and the stop arm is extended, stop behind the school bus.
- Stop no closer than 15 feet from the rear of the bus, and remain stopped until the stop arm is retracted and the school bus starts moving again. Then proceed with caution.

Meeting the bus from the opposite direction:
- When you see amber warning lights flashing you must slow your vehicle to no more than 20 mph and be prepared to stop.
- When the school bus stops and its stop arm is extended, stop in front of the school bus . Remain stopped until the stop arm is retracted. Then proceed with caution.

Roads with 2 or more lanes in each direction:
Approaching from behind the bus:
The rules are the same as for the two- or three-lane road.

Meeting the bus from the opposite direction:
- When meeting the bus in one of the opposite two lanes (or more), you do not need to stop, even if the bus has stopped with lights flashing and stop arm out.
- The bus is not permitted to load or unload children who must cross this type of roadway, unless there are official traffic control devices or law enforcement present.
- This is the ONLY time you may pass a school bus that is stopped and has its stop arm extended.
