Congratulations to Jack and Sandy Miller who are the recipients of our inaugural Community Partner Award in recognition of their unwavering support of our crew and our mission.

Every holiday, when our on-duty EMS crews are away from their own families while serving the community, Jack and Sandy open their home and invite them to share a meal with their family. Their kindness, generosity, and compassion remind our team that they are never alone while caring for others.

Last evening we were privileged to celebrate EMS Week with some of the unsung heroes of Iowa Falls EMS--the families of our providers. Thank you to all of the spouses, children, parents, and extended family members who allow us to serve our community through their love, support, and dedication. Crew members and family participated in a team-building activity where we worked together as EMS teams to "build" a family of Mr. Potato Heads using an Incident Command structure like we would on the scene of an actual emergency!

Today’s EMS Week thank you goes to our backyard neighbor, Ni**od Meats owned by Rocky and Carla Damiano, who provided our staff with a variety of goodies. They are great neighbors to have, especially when crews are looking for jerky, beef or pork sticks, snacks, ice cream, something to cook for the day, and so much more.

They have been great EMS supporters in several other ways, one of which is letting MercyOne Air Care land a helicopter on their property each fall for the last few years. While the MercyOne North Iowa flight crew has their annual safety day, Iowa Falls EMS hosts one of their partner helicopters and crew members. We serve as a halfway point between Mason City and one of the southern bases so they can respond more quickly.

Iowa Falls EMS had another great training last night with Erik Skoog from Zoll Medical. He did a refresher on the use of our transport ventilators and we got to take a deep dive into all of the nuances of non-invasive ventilation used in the treatment of CHF, COPD, asthma, flash pulmonary edema, and other acute respiratory emergencies we frequently encounter in the field.
