Aberdeen’s Storybook Land Theatre (SBLT) is hitting the road this summer, bringing music, laughter and live Theatre to communities around North and South Dakota. Audiences of all ages are invited to enjoy free performances of “Pete the Cat”. This year’s tour will include 18 performances in a dozen communities, including Ipswich, SD on Wednesday August 5th at the Bandshell in Library Park on Main Street. Pre-show entertainment begins at 9:30 a.m. and the show begins at 10:00 a.m.
“Pete the Cat” features the popular guitar-playing kitty from the uproariously funny children’s book series “Pete the Cat” by Kimberly and James Dean. Script and Lyrics by Sarah Hammond. Music by Will Aronson. “Pete the Cat” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
For Pete the Cat, life is an adventure! The minute this groovy blue feline meets the Biddles, he gets the whole family rocking. That is, except for young Jimmy Biddle, the most organized 2nd grader on planet Earth. But when Jimmy draws a blank in art class during the last week of school, Pete is the perfect pal to help him out. Together, they set out on a mission to help Jimmy conquer 2nd grade art. Along the way, they both learn something new about inspiration. Join Jimmy and Pete on their adventure, all the way to Paris and back in a VW Bus!
Now in its 38th season of presenting free family-friendly performances, Storybook Land Theatre is a program of Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry and co-sponsored by the Aberdeen Community Theatre’s Young Peoples Theatre. Under the direction of Artistic Director Claire Vetter and Managing Director Brian T. Schultz, SBLT performs eight different shows in eight weeks at the Storybook Land Castle in Aberdeen’s Wylie Park every summer--all in addition to the touring show.
The 2026 season marks the 9th year that Storybook Land Theatre has taken its show on the road.
