Why I am Seeking a Seat on the Select Board
Ipswich is a special place. Our coastal access, open spaces, historic resources, local businesses, small town feel yet close proximity to Metropolitan Boston, and fascinating collection of residents form a unique community that we all have a shared interest in seeing thrive. Like many communities we are confronted with the twin challenges of addressing pressing investments in our infrastructure (buildings, roads and bridges, utilities, and housing) and services (municipal and educational) while needing to maintain affordability for existing and future residents and businesses.
I believe we can address these challenges but doing so requires new and creative thinking, comprehensive strategic planning, close collaboration between town leadership, staff, boards, and committees, and constant communication with town residents and businesses. We have developed many excellent plans over the years (most recently our Community Development Plan) and we need to focus on implementing them and following through on the commitments made in each. Most importantly, we need to work on new ways to understand community needs, solicit community ideas, and consistently demonstrate how town decisions are shaped by them.
I think I can best contribute to our Town’s needs and the progress we need to make through service on the Select Board, our executive board charged with leading strategic planning efforts, and so I am seeking a seat at the May election. I look forward to hearing from you and discussing the issues of the day and ideas for addressing them.
