Welcome to the Facebook community for the Trustees of Reservations' Crane Estate in Ipswich, Massachusetts. The spectacular Crane Estate encompasses more than 2,100 acres in Ipswich, Massachusetts. The Estate is made up of three properties: Castle Hill, a National Historic Landmark that is the home of The Great House, a spectacular venue for weddings and corporate events, guided tours, and programs. Crane Beach, a popular public beach and summer destination; and the Crane Wildlife Refuge, a natural treasure boasting many rare plant and animal species. The Trustees of Reservations preserves, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts. Can you guess the movie? Released in 1987, this movie has several shots filmed around Castle Hill.

Join the final "Hollywood on the Hill" tour of the season this Saturday, 10/17 to learn about all the movies filmed at the Crane Estate over the years. From "The Witches of Eastwick" (1987) and "The Crucible" (1996), to "The Equalizer" (2014) and "Little Women" (2019), and more, there are sure to be incredible stories that you will only hear on this tour.

Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
 
The places in our care across Massachusetts have been home to Indigenous peoples and communities for thousands of years, and they remain home today. These lands carry histories that deserve respect and reflection, not just today, but every day.
 
At The Trustees, we remain committed to listening, learning, and building respectful relationships with Indigenous communities as we care for these cultural landscapes. We’re grateful to the Indigenous educators, artists, and knowledge keepers who share their stories with us and help shape how we tell the stories of these places.

The Great House at Castle Hill is OPEN today 10AM-4PM. Grounds are open 9AM-5PM.

We have been having the best time learning and exploring at the Crane Estate & Appleton Farms with our homeschool students this fall!

Please join us and help spread the word about our next 4-week session - Homeschool Adventures: Session 2, which starts next week! We are also offering 1 additional 4-week sessions starting later in October. These programs immerse children in the outdoors and challenge them with physical/academic activities that allow them to bond with nature and each other.

Choate Island Day is one week away and there are still some tickets available! This is one of your only chances to visit the crown jewel of the Crane Wildlife Refuge!

Spend a day with us in celebration of Choate Island. The island was first home to indigenous farmers and fishers, then to generations of the Choate family, and was later a retreat for Cornelius and Miné Crane, who loved the place so much they decided to be buried at the summit.

Here is a sampling of events for the day:

Guided tours are offered Tuesday - Sunday & Indigenous Peoples' Day through October, and weekends only through November (excluding Art Show weekend* & Thanksgiving weekend).
