On this night...20 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning tomorrow. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00 am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.
Also remember the many still dealing with the aftermath, battling cancer or losing their loved ones from that day.

Here is a heads up from GMP as they prepare for potential strong winds and a large amount of rain coming into our region over the next couple days.

Stay safe and remember to watch for downed wires and keep a safe distance if you are unsure of situation it never hurts to back away and call 911.

Storm alert: Forecasts have potentially strong winds Thursday night into Friday and the possibility of outages.
We're reminding customers to be alert to the forecast, as meteorologists predict a regionwide warm, wet weather system bringing the possibility of strong winds that could take down trees and power lines, along with one to two inches of rain and the potential for localized flooding Thursday into Friday. GMP has been tracking this storm for days and is urging customers to be safe.

“We want customers to be aware of possibility of outages and heavy rain this storm may bring. We follow multiple forecasts to be ready to respond as quickly and safely as possible. If winds are strong enough to take down trees and lines, it is so important for customers to stay far away from power lines, and always assume a downed line is still energized and a danger - call us,” said Mike Burke, Chief of Field Operations at GMP.

It is still 48 hours before forecasters say the strongest gusts arrive in Vermont. On a statewide planning call for utilities and state agencies, meteorologist Roger Hill, who specifically forecasts for potential weather impacts to utility infrastructure, said winds could slowly ramp up Thursday evening with the strongest gusts above 50 miles per hour possible overnight. “Right now, the models show high elevations and along the western slopes of the Green Mountains are where those winds will be strongest,” Hill said.

In preparation for any storm, some good items to have on hand are a fully charged cell phone, bottled water, battery-powered flashlights, emergency phone numbers, and a plan of where to go if you were to need to leave your home. You can find more storm safety tips on GMP’s website: https://greenmountainpower.com/safety/.

Vermont Emergency Management advises that Tropical Storm Isaias is a significant storm that will impact our area. Residents are encouraged to prepare for high winds, heavy rainfall, and power outtages beginning at 4:00 p.m. and continuing through the evening. Localized flooding may occur.

Follow these tips to stay safe:
-Do not approach downed wires, ever!
-Do not drive through flood waters or under fallen trees.
-Prepare for power outtages by having battery operated flashlights and lanterns ready.
-If you are using a generator, make sure that it is in a well ventilated area, away from the building.
