The first couple of weeks of school are always a little busy as everyone adjusts to their new school schedule. Be sure to give yourself at least 10 extra minutes each morning to help everyone start the day safely and stress-free!

- Teach children crosswalk safety!
- Cross only at designated crosswalks or intersections.
- Look left, right, then left again before crossing.
- Make eye contact with drivers before stepping into the street.
- Stay off phones and remove earbuds while crossing.
- Walk—never run—across the street.

Students riding bicycles should always wear a properly fitted helmet, obey traffic laws, use hand signals when turning, and remain alert around vehicles entering and exiting school property.

The Irmo Police Department needs your help in identifying a suspect in an equipment theft case. Please watch the videos in the comments of the suspect on foot and the suspect's vehicle.

Between the evening hours of June 26 and the early morning hours of June 27, a 2017 John Deere Grapple Skidder was stolen from Western Lane in Irmo.

The first couple of weeks of school are always a little busy as everyone adjusts to their new school schedule. Once school starts, be sure to give yourself at least 10 extra minutes each morning to help everyone start the day safely and stress-free!

🛑 See red lights and the stop arm? Stop every time. It's the law and it helps keep students safe!
🚍 Only continue driving once the red lights stop flashing and the bus starts moving again.
⏰ Arrive at your bus stop about 5 minutes early so you wont need to rush or run after the bus!
🚸 Wait a safe distance from the curb until the bus comes to a complete stop and the door opens.
👀 If you need to cross the street, walk at least 10 giant steps in front of the bus so the driver can see you, and always wait for the driver's signal before crossing.
🎒 If you drop something near the bus, don't try to pick it up. Let the bus driver know and they will help you retrieve it safely.
💛 Once you're on the bus, stay seated and face forward until you arrive at school or home.

Our hearts are heavy and our Irmo officers extend their condolences to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department as they mourn the loss of Master Deputy Jillian Olson.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and fellow deputies. Her service, bravery and dedication will not be forgotten.

📸 Let’s clear the air about Irmo’s safety cameras.

The Irmo Police Department is expanding our Flock Safety camera system from 11 to 33 locations. We’ve seen some questions and misinformation online, so we want to share the facts directly.

🛡️ What You Need to Know
Vehicles, Not People: The cameras only read license plates and capture vehicle characteristics from the rear.

No Facial Recognition: They cannot identify drivers or passengers.

Not for Daily Tracking: Placed only at major entry and exit points, they are strictly used to solve serious crimes like vehicle thefts, burglaries, violent offenses, and missing person cases.

Proven Results: The existing cameras have already solved cases and recovered stolen property.

🔍 MYTH vs. FACT

MYTH: "The Town is tracking everyone's movements."
FACT: The cameras are investigative tools placed at key entry and exit points. They are used to identify vehicles connected to criminal investigations. The flock cameras do not monitor daily activities.

MYTH: "These are facial recognition cameras."
FACT: They do not use facial recognition technology. They are designed to read license plates and document vehicle characteristics.

MYTH: "This is government surveillance."
FACT: The purpose is purely public safety, which includes recovering stolen vehicles, locating missing persons, identifying suspects, and providing investigators with leads.
