🏆 SCALE Competition 2026 Recap 🏆

This week, the Irmo Police Department Cadet Unit 800 proudly competed at the South Carolina Association of Law Enforcement (SCALE) Competition. Our cadets demonstrated professionalism, teamwork, and dedication while competing against agencies from across the state.

We are proud to announce our placements:

🥈 2nd Place - Overall

🥇 1st Place – Unknown Traffic Stop
🥈 2nd Place – Burglary in Progress
🥈 2nd Place – Narcotics Search Warrant
🥈 2nd Place – Crime Scene Investigation
🥈 2nd Place – Hostage Negotiations
🥈 2nd Place – Male Physical Agility Test

These accomplishments are a direct reflection of the countless hours our cadets have dedicated to training, preparation, and teamwork. We are incredibly proud of every member who represented Irmo Police Department with integrity and professionalism throughout the competition.

A special thank you to our advisors, instructors, families, and everyone who supported us along the way. Congratulations to all of the agencies and cadets who competed this week—we look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Benedict College Police Department and the Columbia Police Department for hosting this year’s SCALE Conference and Competition. Thank you for your hospitality, organization, and commitment to providing cadets from across South Carolina with an outstanding learning and competition experience.

On June 6th, the Irmo Police Cadets had the opportunity to help out at the Town of Irmo Community Cookout at Friarsgate Skate Park. Throughout the event, cadets assisted where needed, spent time connecting with community members, and joined in on basketball games with local kids and residents. It was a great day of service, fun, and community engagement, and we are grateful to everyone who came out and made the event a success. We look forward to continuing to support and connect with our community through future events!!🔥🏀

The Irmo Police Department Cadet Post recently held a promotion ceremony recognizing the hard work and dedication of our cadets. Cadets were either promoted to new ranks or officially assigned their starting ranks within the program.

We would also like to recognize several members of our command staff team on their promotions:

• Cadet Jacoby Dale — promoted from Cadet to Corporal
• Cadet William Harvey — promoted from Senior Cadet to Sergeant
• Cadet Gage Shannon — promoted from Senior Cadet to Lieutenant
• Cadet Jacob Thrun — promoted from Sergeant to Chief

Serving Our Community at DEA National Take Back Day 💊🚫

Today, Saturday, April 25, 2026, members of the Irmo Police Department Cadet Post proudly assisted with DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This initiative helps keep our community safe by providing a secure way to dispose of unused or expired medications, preventing misuse and protecting our environment.

We’re honored to serve alongside our officers and give back to the community while gaining real-world experience in law enforcement. Thank you to everyone who came out and did their part today!

The Irmo Police Cadet Program honors Preston McElwain, a member of the Core 4, for his leadership and commitment to reviving the program during a critical period.

The Core 4 cadets competed together in various Scales, establishing a benchmark for discipline, unity, and pride. Preston competed in five Scales with Irmo and remained a part of the team in his sixth, living up to the tradition they established.

The Summer Scales of 2025 represented the final complete competition for the Core 4. Preston, the first to advance, established a solid precedent for future cadets. We thank him for his contributions and wish him all the best.
