The Iron Mountain Football Program is officially rocking some incredible new gear, and itโ€™s all thanks to an amazing community effort. We want to extend a massive, heartfelt thank you to the Athletic Booster Club, Tom Johnson Memorial & Iron Mountain High School for unwavering support of our teams.

This investment goes way beyond the gridiron. Your support shows a deep belief in our players, our coaches, and the invaluable lessons of teamwork, discipline, and personal growth that football teaches. When our guys step out under the Friday night lights, theyโ€™ll be carrying your pride and support with them.

In honor of the well-deserved retirement of our school nurse, 'Cookie', let's hear some words from her & wish her all the best! ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

I started my time at Iron Mountain Schools 6 years ago just as the realities of the new Covid virus was gaining ground in our area. The school nurse job had been reduced to part time so right from the start it was a lot of Covid triage and emergency planning. Previous nurse duties were either eliminated or put on hold and I must have looked like a โ€˜deer in the headlightsโ€™ much of the time. Those first 2 years seemed like one crisis after another until we hired a second nurse and got into a steady routine.

I am most proud of the work we did to improve our medical emergency responses throughout the district. We finalized a cardiac emergency response protocol and created trained response teams in both of the buildings. Our teams continue to practice cardiac drills every year. They have been called upon a few times over these years and have done very very well. I have also enjoyed working with 4 nursing students, introducing them to a big section of community based nursing. The best memories though come from the students themselves. They have been both challenging and delightful. Sometimes at the same time! It has been a gift to watch many of them grow through often very difficult circumstances.

I look forward to reconnecting with old hobbies and developing new ones. We will be traveling some and camping, doing house projects and continuing to walk the streets with our dog. I hope to have time to develop stronger relationships with family and friends and of course we will continue to volunteer at Cornerstone Community Church and with the Moving Mountains Adaptive Snowsports Program. I hope I can continue to teach ski lessons in some capacity for many years yet so there is probably a lot of physical therapy in my future as well!

My 4 children have all grown up and graduated from Iron Mountain and my husband was on the school board for many years. I was the last in my family to become a Mountaineer and I am happy to be included in the black and gold family!
Thank you, Cookie - you will be missed!

Today, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Nikki Peddycord as she begins her well-earned retirement!

Over an incredible 30-year career, Nikki has impacted the lives of more than 3,700 students, spending 10 years as a middle school math teacher and 20 years teaching Geometry and AP Statistics at the high school level. While her accomplishments are many, Nikki says the very best part of her career has always been her students.

For the past three years, Nikki has been a valued member of the Iron Mountain Public Schools family, where she quickly became a beloved educator and trusted mentor. We are grateful for the dedication, care, and passion she brought to our classrooms each day.

As she enters this exciting new chapter, Nikki looks forward to spending more time with family and friends, enjoying mornings with her husband, visiting loved ones, exploring the outdoors, and training for future 'big foot' races.

Thank you, Nikki, for your years of service, your commitment to students, and the positive impact you've made on our school community. Once a Mountaineer, always a Mountaineer! We wish you nothing but happiness, health, and adventure in retirement.

She said it herself, "Look for us at the football games in the fall and likely subbing now and again to keep us sharp! Please be sure to say Hi and chat if you see us in the wild, we will always carry our Mountaineers in our hearts!" ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›
Congratulations, Nikki!
