Due to getting several reports of underaged children operating off road vehicles within the city, we felt the need to remind everyone on the city ordinance.

So far, our enforcement efforts have involved educating young riders and parents of the ordinance and laws regarding safe off road vehicle operations, and what is prohibited within the city limits. Although we do not want to, we may have to take a more strict approach as some that received warnings continue to operate ATVs.

The parent/guardian who knowingly permits a minor to operate an ATV and the minor operating the ATV can be cited under Michigan law and/or the city ordinance.

🚨 ORV Use Within Iron Mountain City Limits.

🚫 Where you CANNOT ride:
• Stephenson Ave. (US-2), Carpenter Ave. (M95)
• East H Street and Ludington Street between US-2 and M95
• City bike paths, walking trails, and other non-motorized recreation areas
• ORVs are prohibited in any city park

Highway & Road Crossing Rules:
• Crossing US-2, M95, and H Street is only permitted at designated crossings; a map is below
• Come to a complete stop before crossing
• Cross at a 90-degree angle
• Yield to all oncoming traffic

Keep in mind:
• All Michigan ORV laws apply (helmets, age restrictions, etc.)
• Violations may result in fines

Age restriction:
• Riders must be 18 years of age or older and must possess a valid drivers license.
• Riders 16 years to 18 years must be under direct supervision of a parent or guardian and must possess a valid driver’s license.

The city of Iron Mountain does not provide curb side spring clean up. However, you can bring those items, that you don’t want in your garage or basement, or the stuff in your yard that your neighbors do not want to look at anymore, down to the Department of Public Works. This is for IM city residents who pay a garbage disposal fee. The location, times of drop off, and types of items are described in the flyer.
