END OF WATCH
The men and women of the Pelham Police Department are mourning the loss of Officer Juan Gomez, an eleven-year veteran of the department. Officer Gomez, age 39, was hospitalized due to COVID-19 August 6th. His watch ended Saturday morning, August 14th. He leaves behind his wife and two children.

“We are devastated and heartbroken by the loss of our friend,” said Police Chief Pat Cheatwood. “He was an incredible police officer. He had a servant’s heart and would never hesitate to help someone in need. Juan loved this community and served honorably. He may be gone, but we will make sure he is never forgotten.”

Prior to his law enforcement career, Officer Gomez was in the Army for eight years. During his service to our country, he was awarded many commendations, including the Army Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

“Juan was devout in his faith, and I believe he would want us to receive comfort in scripture,” Cheatwood said. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” -Matthew 5:4

Please keep Officer Gomez’s family, friends and co-workers in your prayers as we all figure out how to live life without him.

RIP sir

You said you would be back.

On June 4, 2021, Sergeant Charles Singletary retired from the Birmingham Police Department after 26 years of dedicated service. On that day, after I gave him, his retirement badge and certificate of service, he looked at me, smiled, and said, I will be back (referring to the BPD rehire program).

Unfortunately, that return date would never come. Regrettably, Sergeant Singletary passed away on July 28, 2021, at the VA Hospital. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and son, along with a host of family and friends.

Sergeant Singletary will certainly be missed by his BPD family and friends. Rest In Peace Sergeant Singletary, we’ve got it from here.

I know everyone is mourning his loss and shocked by his sudden passing. My deepest condolences are extended to his family and friends.

Peace and blessings,

- Chief Patrick D. Smith

Happy birthday, Fr. Mitch Pacwa! We're thankful for your priesthood and your decades of dedication to EWTN and Mother Angelica's mission! Cheers to many more years!

Tell us what you love about Fr. Mitch. We'll start - he's sure-shootin' and faithful to Holy Mother Church. He tells it like it is, and always has an interesting nugget of info about our faith!

Please remember to move over when you see emergency lights and emergency vehicles on the roadside. If you are unable to safely change lanes, please slow to a speed that is at least 15 miles per hour less than the posted speed limit unless otherwise directed by a law enforcement officer.

Two ALEA Troopers were involved in separate crashes earlier this afternoon. Thankfully, both crashes resulted in non-life-threatening injuries.

Well, that's all folks! Today is the day. After 26 years of TV weather and 13 years at WBRC, I'll be hanging up the clicker after the 10pm news.

After today, I will not be a broadcast meteorologist. I appreciate your viewership and trust over the years. Many of you have become "virtual" friends. Thanks for watching WBRC. You're in great hands with Wes Wyatt and the rest of our team!

My love of weather will not change, but I'll shifting to more aviation-related meteorology as I begin my career as a corporate pilot.

I'm off to Dallas for a month to get my PIC type in the GIV and then a bit more training on high altitude as well as international operations.

Please stay in touch. You can find me on my page.
