⛈️ The storm shelter has arrived!

Weighing in at an impressive 35,000 pounds, Irondale’s new storm shelter made its big arrival on Beacon Drive!

Watch as crews from J.D. Morris Construction and Safe-T-Shelter carefully unload and set the massive structure at its new home next to the Irondale Senior Activity Center and across from Irondale Fire Department Station No. 1.

There’s still work ahead! Landscaping, a finished facade, and parking area will be added around the shelter, helping the completed site blend with the character of the surrounding neighborhood.

Thanks to Jefferson County Commissioner Joe Knight for helping our City make this important investment in public safety and preparedness for our community! ⛈️

🌿 Growth and green space can go hand in hand.

In this week’s Mayor’s Corner, Mayor James D. Stewart, Jr. is talking facts about Irondale’s commitment to both economic development and environmental stewardship.

Since 2020, city-owned green space has grown from 56 acres to 507 acres — a nine-fold increase. From protecting natural assets to incorporating conservation into new development, the goal is clear: grow Irondale while preserving what makes our community special.

📚 Facts first. Community always.

Mayor James D. Stewart, Jr. is providing an update to Irondale families following the announcement of new magnet programs coming to Irondale schools.

The new STEAM opportunities are good news for our students, and families should choose the educational path that is best for their children. At the same time, the City continues its careful review of the School Feasibility Study and the legal questions surrounding the possibility of an independent city school system.

No decision has been made. The City is doing its homework, working with legal counsel, and making sure our community has the facts before any decision is considered.
