🚒 Investing in the Future of the Fire Service! 🚒

Our Junior Firefighters had the opportunity to welcome Brandon Houser with the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office for a special training session!
We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to Brandon for taking time out of his schedule to come work with our juniors, share his knowledge, and help further their education in the fire service.

These young men and women are the future of our department, and opportunities like this help build their knowledge, confidence, and understanding of what it takes to serve their community.
We are incredibly proud of the dedication our juniors continue to show. Watching them learn, ask questions, and take their training seriously reminds us why investing in the next generation is so important.

Thank you again, Brandon, for supporting our Junior Firefighter Program! We appreciate your time and willingness to invest in our future firefighters.

Our Juniors still had one heck of a training night learning how to establish and operate a landing zone alongside our senior firefighters.

From preparing the area and marking the LZ to scene safety, apparatus placement and understanding what has to happen before an aircraft ever touches the ground — there was a lot to learn.

Huge shoutout to Chief Ryan Hardy & Lieutenant Lee Everidge for putting in the work to paint our new landing zone!

These kids continue to show up, learn and make us proud.

🚁 A little preparation happening today at IFPD… 🚒

You may notice something looking a little different at our Camp Irondale landing zone!

Tonight, our Junior Firefighters will be getting some hands-on training on landing zone setup and safety before welcoming Air Evac for a special training opportunity.

Training like this gives our Juniors the chance to learn skills they could one day use alongside our senior firefighters during a real emergency—from preparing and securing an LZ to understanding how fire/EMS works with an air medical crew.

We’re excited for a great night of training and even more excited to share it with you afterward! 🚁🔥

🇺🇸 SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 — 25 YEARS LATER 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation watched the unthinkable unfold.

Nearly 3,000 lives were taken. Families lost mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and friends. Communities were forever changed.

And while thousands were trying desperately to escape the danger, firefighters, police officers, EMTs and other first responders were running directly toward it.

343 FDNY firefighters never came home.

They climbed those stairs carrying the weight of their gear and the responsibility of their calling, not knowing what waited above them. They went because someone needed help.

For those of us in the fire service, September 11 is more than a date in history. It is a reminder of the oath behind what we do — to answer the call, to serve our neighbors and to stand beside one another when the unimaginable happens.

Twenty-five years have passed. A generation has grown up knowing 9/11 only through photographs, videos and the stories we tell.

That is why we must keep telling them.

We remember the lives that were taken.
We remember the families who never got to say goodbye.
We remember the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.
We remember those who survived but carried the physical and emotional wounds long after that day.
And we remember a nation that, in the darkest of moments, came together.

Today, the Irondale Fire Protection District proudly joins fire departments and communities across this country in saying:

We have not forgotten.
We will not forget.
We will NEVER forget.

May we continue to honor them not only with our words, but through service, courage, compassion and the way we care for one another.

🚒 When every second matters, access matters.

Today was another reminder of just how thankful we are to have our side-by-side available for calls. Not every patient is somewhere an ambulance or fire apparatus can easily reach, and having equipment that allows our crews to access difficult and remote areas can make all the difference.

We’re incredibly grateful to have this resource available to help us reach patients, transport equipment, and assist EMS when the terrain makes a normal response difficult.

Just another tool helping the Irondale Fire Protection District better serve our community. 🚒

🚒🔥 WE’RE LOOKING FOR MORE JR. FIREFIGHTERS! 🔥🚒

The Irondale Fire Protection District Jr. Firefighter Program is growing, and we’d love to add a few more young people to our crew!

This program is about SO much more than just learning about the fire service. Our Jr. Firefighters get hands-on experience, learn teamwork and responsibility, train alongside firefighters, meet guest speakers, and get introduced to different career paths in public safety and emergency services.

So far, we’re working on opportunities that include:
🚒 Fire service & equipment
🌲 Wildland fire & forestry
🚑 EMS & emergency response
🚌 Specialized emergency situations
🧯 Fire safety & prevention
📻 Communications
💪 Hands-on training, teamwork & leadership
👨‍🚒 Learning directly from experienced firefighters and guest speakers

Who can join?
🔥 Ages 15–17
🔥 Age 14 if you have a parent who is an active member of the department
🔥 No previous fire experience needed — that’s what we’re here to teach!

We generally meet every other Tuesday evening, with additional opportunities to participate in department trainings and special guest-speaker nights.

This is a great program whether you already know you want to become a firefighter OR you’re simply interested in learning new skills, serving your community, meeting new people, and seeing where the experience takes you.

Parents — we want this to be a positive, safe and educational environment where these kids can build confidence, responsibility and skills they can carry with them long after the Jr. program.
