🚒🔥 WE’RE LOOKING FOR MORE JR. FIREFIGHTERS! 🔥🚒

The Irondale Fire Protection District Jr. Firefighter Program is growing, and we’d love to add a few more young people to our crew!

This program is about SO much more than just learning about the fire service. Our Jr. Firefighters get hands-on experience, learn teamwork and responsibility, train alongside firefighters, meet guest speakers, and get introduced to different career paths in public safety and emergency services.

So far, we’re working on opportunities that include:
🚒 Fire service & equipment
🌲 Wildland fire & forestry
🚑 EMS & emergency response
🚌 Specialized emergency situations
🧯 Fire safety & prevention
📻 Communications
💪 Hands-on training, teamwork & leadership
👨‍🚒 Learning directly from experienced firefighters and guest speakers

Who can join?
🔥 Ages 15–17
🔥 Age 14 if you have a parent who is an active member of the department
🔥 No previous fire experience needed — that’s what we’re here to teach!

We generally meet every other Tuesday evening, with additional opportunities to participate in department trainings and special guest-speaker nights.

This is a great program whether you already know you want to become a firefighter OR you’re simply interested in learning new skills, serving your community, meeting new people, and seeing where the experience takes you.

Parents — we want this to be a positive, safe and educational environment where these kids can build confidence, responsibility and skills they can carry with them long after the Jr. program.

This evening, members of the Irondale Fire Protection District had the opportunity to go over the new electric buses at West County R-IV Schools. 🚌⚡️

Our firefighters and junior firefighters learned about the buses’ electrical systems, emergency shutoffs, battery locations and other important safety features. We hope we never have to use this knowledge, but hands-on training like this helps ensure we’re prepared if, God forbid, an emergency should occur.

A big thank-you to West County R-IV Schools for taking the time to walk us through the new buses and help us better protect our students, drivers and community! 🚒

Yesterday afternoon, Irondale Fire Protection District responded to Cedar Creek Road for a round baler on fire that had begun spreading into the surrounding hayfield. 🔥🌾

Crews worked quickly to extinguish the baler and burning hay, stopping the fire before it could spread any farther. Thankfully, everyone remained safe!

Proud of our volunteers who continue to answer the call and serve our community whenever they’re needed. 🚒

🌳🚒 STORM RESPONSE — TREE DOWN 🚒🌳

At approximately 7:44 PM this evening, Irondale Fire Protection District was dispatched to Scout Camp Road & Tyler Road for a tree down blocking the roadway.

Crews arrived to find a large tree and multiple limbs obstructing the road. Members worked together with chainsaws and equipment to cut and remove the debris and get the roadway cleared.

These summer storms can bring down trees and limbs with very little warning. Please use extra caution when traveling after severe weather, especially around wooded roadways and NEVER approach or drive over a downed power line.

A big thank you to our members who answered the call and helped get the road opened back up safely! 🚒💪

⚠️ WEATHER UPDATE | Irondale Fire Protection District ⚠️

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for portions of St. Francois County and southeastern Washington County until 10:00 PM CDT.

At 9:15 PM, radar indicated rotation within a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Potosi, moving east at 40 MPH.

Hazards:
🌪️ Tornado possible
💨 Flying debris
🌳 Tree damage likely
🏠 Damage to roofs, windows, vehicles, and mobile homes is possible

If you are in the warning area:
• Take shelter immediately in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
• Stay away from windows and exterior walls.
• If you are in a vehicle or mobile home, move to the nearest substantial shelter immediately.
• Continue monitoring local weather alerts until the warning expires or is canceled.

🚒 Irondale Fire Protection District personnel are monitoring conditions and stand ready to respond as needed. Please avoid unnecessary travel and keep 911 available for emergencies only.

Stay safe, stay weather aware, and check on your neighbors if it can be done safely. 🇺🇸🚒

🚨 Tornado Watch Until 11:00 PM 🚨

A Tornado Watch has been issued for Washington County through 11:00 p.m.

Please stay weather aware, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and be prepared to take shelter if a warning is issued for your area.

Stay safe, and continue to monitor trusted weather sources throughout the evening.

Last night at around 10pm , Irondale Fire Protection District responded to a residential structure fire on Zinc Mine Road.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a small structure fully involved with heavy fire showing. Crews quickly deployed attack lines, contained the fire, and extinguished several spot fires that had extended into the surrounding vegetation. Through the combined efforts of all responding agencies, the fire was brought under control, followed by overhaul operations to ensure all remaining hot spots were extinguished.

Thankfully, no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

We would like to thank all of our mutual aid partners for their assistance and professionalism. Working together allows us to better serve and protect our communities.

🚒 Structure Fire Response 🚒

Today, Irondale Fire Protection District responded to a reported explosion and structure fire.

Upon arrival, crews found the structure had already collapsed. Firefighters worked to extinguish remaining hot spots, complete overhaul operations, and ensure the scene was safe before clearing the call.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

We would like to thank all responding agencies for their quick response, professionalism, and teamwork. Calls like these are a reminder of how important mutual aid is in protecting our communities.

We are grateful for the continued support of the community we proudly serve.
