Praying for safe travels home for all of the teams who answered the call during Hurricane Isaias.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication and willingness to serve shown by our personnel. Irondale Fire Department is built on men and women who are willing to answer the call, wherever that call may take them.

Four members of IFD deployed as part of Strike Team 111 and are currently in Brewton, Alabama, assisting local responders with cutting trees and clearing roadways following storm damage.

We are proud to be part of the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs Mutual Aid Consortium (AAFC-MAC), which allows fire departments from across Alabama to come together and provide assistance when communities need it most.

We also appreciate Mayor of Irondale James D. Stewart, Jr. and the Irondale City Council for supporting our department’s participation in the Consortium and allowing our firefighters to serve communities beyond our city when the need arises.

To our crew and all of the firefighters and responders who deployed: thank you for answering the call. Finish the mission, travel safely, and come home safe.

PUBLIC INFORMATION NOTICE

We want to address information currently circulating through scanner and dispatch-monitoring applications regarding an alleged firefighter rescue and Mayday in Irondale this morning.

This information is NOT accurate.

The radio transmissions referenced in this post came from firefighters conducting a training exercise and communicating on one of our tactical radio channels. There was no active structure fire, no firefighter Mayday, and no firefighter rescue associated with these transmissions.

Many scanner and dispatch-monitoring applications now use artificial intelligence to monitor radio traffic and automatically generate incident descriptions, headlines, and notifications. While these tools can provide information about public safety radio traffic, they do not always have the context necessary to distinguish an actual emergency from firefighter training, radio testing, or other routine activity.

In this instance, radio traffic from a training exercise on our tactical channel was interpreted by the application as a real emergency and presented to users with the headline “Firefighter rescue during building fire in Irondale.”

That did not occur.

We want our residents and media partners to understand that information generated by scanner applications or artificial intelligence should not be considered an official report from the Irondale Fire Department or the City of Irondale. We encourage everyone to verify significant incidents through official sources before sharing information.

Thankfully, today’s reported “firefighter rescue” was actually our firefighters training for the day when those skills may truly be needed
