Happy Independence Day!! We hope you have a wonderful day with friends and family. Just a reminder, summer is synonymous with barbecues, parades and fireworks. The National Safety Council advises everyone to enjoy fireworks at public displays conducted by professionals, and not to use any fireworks at home. They may be legal but they are not safe.

Every year, thousands of people are injured badly enough to require medical treatment after fireworks-related incidents, with many of the injuries to children and young adults. While the majority of these incidents are due to amateurs attempting to use professional-grade, homemade or other illegal fireworks or explosives, less powerful devices like small firecrackers and sparklers can also cause significant injuries.

Additionally, fireworks start an average of 19,000 fires each year. Be safe!

Crews did a great job containing a woods fire yesterday near the 1900 block of Grants Mill Rd. They had to cut and clear a trail to gain access to the fire (almost a half mile) and then begin extinguishing and containing the growth of the fire. From their hard work and dedication they were able to contain the fire to just roughly an acre of wooded area.

PLEASE HELP! This shadow box has been lost and we need your help in finding it! It belongs to the daughter of Mountain Brook retired firefighter, Captain Letson, and is irreplaceable. Please join us in helping find this for his family. We are grateful for everyone’s effort!

From his daughter, Destiny Shae Letson:

“If anyone finds this at any thrift store in the Shelby County (Alabama) area, PLEASE get it back to me 😭😭 someone donated all of my stuff without consent or permission and I just want this back. This was some of the last things I had of my dad and I want them back!!”
