To clear up any rumors circulating and to update our previous post, the Ironton Police Department is still actively seeking David Maynard. All info listed in our previous post is still accurate as far as Maynard and the last known vehicle he was operating. A murder warrant has been issued for David Maynard. We are asking if anyone knows his whereabouts or sees him to please call the Ironton Police Departments Detective Division or the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office. If anyone sees him do not approach. He is considered armed and dangerous.

On Monday, May 29th, 2023, we remember those who gave all for our country. The City of Ironton has held a parade in remembrance of these men and woman since 1868 and this year marks 155 years.

The population of the city quadruples on this day and this year road construction will affect the traffic flow on Park Avenue. If at all possible use the SR 650, SR 141, Coal Grove exit, or the Oakley C. Collins bridge to enter and exit the city.

Stay safe and enjoy this day with your family and friends.

Yesterday, at the Lawrence County, Ohio Museum, I had the privilege to speak with former Ironton Police Department Captain Phillip Gene Butler. Captain Butler was with the department 1959-1984 and was working the day Chief Markel was shot and killed on December 2nd, 1966.
Later that same day Captain Butler arrested the man who killed Chief Markel.
