Today is a day that reminded me of why I do what I do. Seeing lives changed and our community strengthened makes all of the blood, sweat, and tears worth it! It was also a bittersweet moment for our Re-Entry Court as we said see you later to a few of our recent graduates.

Each of the graduates remain drug free, they have legitimate employment (and are excelling) and stable housing.

These people are making the moves to better their lives and our community and I couldn’t be more proud of them! I’m also extremely thankful for our treatment team and all of the effort they put into helping people change their lives!

Today, the Lawrence County Re-Entry Court had the honor of participating in Wreaths Across America. Honoring our veterans is the least we can do in return for their service and sacrifice. 🇺🇸

✨✨We just received notice that our Adult Probation Department Received a $425,000.00 grant to implement initiatives that could include hiring pretrial services officers, increasing the use of GPS, equipment, implementing kiosks, and/or upgrading its case management system to increase its efficiency.✨✨

Our Chief Probation Officer, Carl Bowen, has applied for and has been awarded over 1/2 MILLION DOLLARS in NEW grants since I took office. Working together, we have improved and expanded our services while identifying and securing funds to offset the costs to the taxpayers. Without Carl’s leadership, knowledge and hard work, these opportunities would not be possible!

✨Thank you, Carl! We appreciate everything you do for the betterment of the Courts and for Lawrence County! ✨

💛 One of the very best parts of being a public servant is spending time with the community. Today I had the opportunity to take my judging skills to Mr. Stewart’s class at SPHS! It was tough choosing a winner as each of these Pointers did an outstanding job presenting the case! 💙

Thank you to Mr. Stewart and his class for the invitation! I enjoyed spending time with you today.

Our nation was forever changed 21 years ago today. We the nearly 3,000 people killed at the hands of Islamic terrorists, the heroes who ran into the fire to try to rescue the injured or trapped, and the families who suffered the tragic loss of loved ones on that day. We also remember afterward, how our churches were packed as we cried out to God for help and protection. Our need for Him is no less today. “God is our refuge and strength…” (Psalm 46:1). I hope you will join me in lifting this country and our leaders up in prayer.

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

I attended the ceremony at Woodland Cemetery today and reflected on the true meaning of the Memorial Day holiday and the ultimate sacrifice made by so many.

💙Thank you to all of the families who have sacrificed so much, including my own family and some of my dear friends. I hope everyone has a safe and memorable holiday weekend.❤️

🇺🇸God bless America and each of you.🇺🇸

This is a bittersweet day for me and my staff. John has been our go to guy for the past 2 years. And, while we are thrilled for John and his family, we are still sad to see John go!! Carrie Gilpin-Dickson

We had our first Advisory Committee meeting for the Re-entry Court!!!

Our Advisory Committee is comprised of community stakeholders, including a representative from the Prosecutor’s office, defense counsel, Job and Family Services, Adult Probation, and local treatment/service providers. The depth of knowledge and expertise on this committee is phenomenal!

I was able to snap a pic of a few of our committee members after the meeting. I’m so thankful for the support of the committee members and their commitment to OUR community.

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I’m re-sharing one of my favorite quotes.

These words of wisdom are as relevant today as they were then. This is especially true considering all of the division we are currently experiencing in our country and in the day of social media.

🎉 HAPPY NEW YEAR, FRIENDS! 🎉

As I reflect on the past year, I continue to be incredibly thankful for the opportunity to serve Lawrence County. I’m also grateful for my staff. I couldn’t have made it through this first year without Shawna, John Smith, and Carrie Gilpin-Dickson! And, I can’t forget our Adult Probation and Security staff. We would be lost without them!

Some highlights from 2019:

I had the honor of administering the oath of office to several of my dear friends (including THREE Lawrence County Auditors, 2 Township Trustees and 1 Councilman): Jason Stephens, Fred R. Dick Gilpin, Paul David Knipp, Lawrence County Auditor, Cecil Mays, Justin Gibson and Paul Hart.

I participated in my first Memorial Day parade!

I submitted an application to begin a Re-entry Court here in Lawrence County.

I presided over cases of all types, including 3 jury trials.

I continued serving on the boards of non-profits and continued my personal community service efforts.

2019 was a busy year full of progress and opportunity! I’m looking forward to 365 more days of new opportunities!

Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to help serve at the Coal Grove Lion’s Club breakfast. It’s a free event for the community and it’s always a great time with great friends!
