As colder temperatures move into our area, we want to remind homeowners to be on the lookout for potential water leaks inside and outside your home.
Cold weather can cause pipes, fittings, and irrigation components to crack or fail - sometimes in places that aren’t immediately visible. Even small leaks can lead to significant water loss over time.
During extended cold periods, water usage often increases due to leaks and frozen or damaged pipes. These usage spikes place additional strain on water production and distribution systems, making leak prevention especially important for the entire community.
What you can do:
-Check exposed pipes, outdoor spigots, and hose bibs for leaks or dripping
-Inspect crawl spaces, basements, garages, and exterior walls if able to be done safely
-Make sure irrigation systems are shut off and winterized
-Address slow drips or running water promptly - even minor leaks add up
If you suspect a leak, taking quick action can help prevent property damage and reduce unnecessary water use.
We appreciate your help in conserving water and protecting the reliability of our water system during periods of cold weather. If you have questions or believe there may be a leak on your property, please contact us so we can assist.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our community’s water system running smoothly.
Sincerely,
Hecla Water Association
