Today we’re humbled to attend the Symmes Valley art gallery at the Lawrence County Court House. If you can go look around, there is several pieces to look at. One of our own was was given the honor of being this year’s Veteran of The Year. A young lady named Emma Berry drew a portrait of FF Aaron Collins. The portrait will hang on the wall in the courthouse. This young lady did a wonderful job. She also presented FF Collins a copy to have. If you can please walk into the Court House and look at the display that is setup. Thank you FF Collins for your service, and CONGRATULATIONS for the honor of being this year’s s Veteran of the Year.

We want to thank the West Ironton Nazarene Church for providing our crew with a home cooked meal at the fire station. After the meal they were given a tour of the station. Thank you very much for the kindness and I’m sure the next two crews will enjoy it as much as we did.

Due to the events yesterday, the hydrant flushing scheduled for this week has been postponed until further notice.

04/03/2024

Our department has been experiencing a high volume of emergency calls recently. Specifically, on Monday, Crew 3 responded to an apartment fire at the 700 block of Wyanoke, where the occupant fortunately escaped with only minor injuries despite significant damage to the property.

Yesterday, Crew One was busy flushing hydrants when the storm arrived and subsequently responded to numerous emergencies throughout the day, including assisting LCEMS in attending to injured individuals in affected areas., searching for casualties initially reported at The Laid Back.

We are grateful for our members who worked tirelessly until every call for help was answered. It is commendable that various agencies went above and beyond their duties given widespread weather-related damages across our county, fire departments promptly responded to each call within townships while entities like IPD, LCEMS Ohio State Patrol faced higher than usual run volumes due to unfavorable climatic conditions.

While things may have slowed for most, agencies like AEP, Spectrum, Columbia Gas and the many contracted electricity companies are still out today restoring the services we may take for granted. To all of those who who responded to the events around the weather yesterday THANK YOU for making our communities a safer place to live.

Today was a great day to work at the fire department. Last minute we were asked to assist Ironton Elementary class “Project lead the way”in a science project. We set up our Tower and set up the egg drop. Students built devices to protect eggs from the fall. The 8th grade went first, all survived the 60’ fall. At 80’ 2 of the 3 team’s survived. At 80’ both of the devices failed. These students did a wonderful job on the project.
We began the same test for the 7th grade. The only difference was this group could attach something to slow the fall. We had construction with a paper roof, balloons, and a plastic grocery bag. The heights were the same all 3 teams survived the 80’ fall. We had to go to 100’. All three devices survived the 100’ fall. These kids were so excited, their devices protected the eggs. We want to thank their teacher Mrs Stone for inviting us to participate in this project.

We were visited by one of our residents and her service dog. She trains with him often and wanted to expose him to our trucks. The dog didn’t act at all timid. Although he didn’t care for the hose tower. It was great to have them here. Thank you for the information about these wonderful animals. “Adobe” is welcome back anytime.

Great work by both agencies.

These two Lawrence county employees worked a cardiac arrest with the help of our friends at the Ironton Fire Department this morning. They had no backup ambulance due to all of them being on runs themselves. They obtained ROSC- Return of Spontaneous Circulation upon arrival at the ER. Mason Dalton- Paramedic and Dale Jewell- EMT. Thanks for your dedication and hard work for the citizens of our county!!! Thanks to our friends at IFD too!!!
