Extreme Fire Danger across the area. Prevent wildfires by using extreme caution and good judgement when working outdoors. Avoid operating machinery in dry vegetation especially during the heat of the day and check all trailer chains to ensure they are not going to drag on the road.

Starting tomorrow, May 22nd, the Sylvania Entrance Station will be open for the recreation season. Entrance Station hours and days of operation will be Tuesday - Sunday from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST. Closed Mondays.

*The burn was cancelled for today - May 22*
If weather conditions are favorable, Ottawa National Forest fire personnel intend to burn both 6950 Rx Units A ( 11-acres ) and B ( 6-acres ) on Friday, May 22, 2026. These two units are located roughly 6 miles west of Paulding, MI. off Forest Road 6950 and north of Sleepy Hollow Road. Wildlife openings, such as these are primarily made up of grass and small shrubs. Smoke will be present for a short duration of time in the immediate area and drifting to the north and northwest. Signs will be posted along the road system.

Greetings Friends!

Starting Monday, May 25th - Memorial Day - we will be switching over to our summer schedule here at the Ottawa National Forest Visitor Center.

We will be open Monday - Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Central Time, closed on Sundays.

Critical fire weather conditions are expected for Saturday, May 16. Open burn permits have been suspended through the weekend by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Use extreme caution with equipment in dry grass, double check any recent campfires or burn piles, and ensure your trailer chains are not dragging.
