A morning for our members to hear insightful details first-hand about an exciting project in Laguna Hills.

Today, Jason Certilman and Aylene Chu with BIA member Toll Brothers presented an overview their office conversion development project that was recently approved by the City of Laguna Hills, moving forward to bring much-needed new housing to the area.

Attendees learned about Toll Brothers’ office-to-housing redevelopment project, eliminating an existing office property and replacing it with 36 for-sale residential units - two-story townhome-style units.

The Urban Infill Committee is charged with monitoring infill opportunities in Orange County as well as presenting educational workshops in order to inform industry and public agencies of relevant issues pertaining to mid-rise/high-rise residential and mixed-use construction.

An afternoon of connection and project insights!

BIA of Orange County’s NextGen group hosted its “From Plan to Permit” workshop yesterday, giving younger homebuilding industry professionals a chance to hear from City of Garden Grove planning staff and builders about the development process and what it really takes to get such a project approved.

Our NextGen members learned about an actual development’s step-by-step journey through the entitlement process, with Garden Grove city staff providing insights about the decisions, the hurdles, and what it really takes to get a project approved.

NextGen empowers younger members and those new to the building industry to develop professional skills through workshops and smaller network meetings.

A big “thank you” to the City of Garden Grove and presenters – and also to our generous NextGen sponsors: Risewell Homes, landscape architects C2 Collaborative, C9 Balloons, Outdoor Dimensions, and planning/architectural design firm WHA.

A special thank you to our speakers for sharing their expertise and helping our members better understand the opportunities and challenges surrounding AB 130. We appreciate Sean Matsler (Cox Castle LLC), Laurel Reimer (City of Riverside), Louisa Felletto (Meritage Homes), Konnie Dobreva (EPD Solutions, Inc.), and Benjamin Zdeba (City of Newport Beach) for leading such an insightful discussion.

With a full room in attendance, yesterday's AB 130 Education Workshop provided an in-depth look at the legislation's impact on CEQA, housing approvals, local governments, and California's development landscape. Attendees heard perspectives on early implementation efforts, how cities and counties are adapting to the new law, and what it could mean for housing production and permitting timelines moving forward.

What a way to kick off the day.

Today, more than just a conference happened. Leaders, innovators, mentors, and rising professionals came together to share stories, build connections, and remind one another that growth rarely happens in comfort zones.

At the 11th Annual Women's Leadership Conference, EVOLVE: The Power of Moving Forward, we were inspired by two incredible women who have each navigated challenges, embraced change, and built remarkable careers.

A heartfelt thank you to Lindsay Shookus, seven-time Emmy Award-winning producer for Saturday Night Live, and Ebony Beckwith, Executive Coach & Corporate Advisor, for sharing your journeys, lessons learned, and powerful insights. Your stories left a lasting impact on everyone in the room.

Thank you to every attendee who invested in themselves, supported one another, and helped create such an uplifting and energizing atmosphere. The conversations sparked today will continue long after the final session ended.

A special thank you to our sponsors whose support made this event possible:
