Firefighters rescued a dog named Agusta from a house fire in Santa Ana shortly after 4 p.m. today.

Crews arrived at the fire on West Flight Avenue in just five minutes and confined it to the garage, preventing it from extending into the rest of the home. Firefighter paramedics treated and transported one patient to the hospital.

Thank you to our partners at Fountain Valley Fire Department and Santa Ana PD for their assistance. The cause is under investigation.

The Orange County Fire Authority and Orange County Professional Firefighters Local 3631 honor the life and service of Firefighter Mary K. Blaul on this anniversary of her Line of Duty Death on August 31, 2017. Mary and her family are forever in our hearts.

The Chain of Survival

Most people who go into cardiac arrest in the middle of the night don’t survive. Fortunately for Patrick, his young son William woke up at the exact moment his dad was experiencing a medical emergency. That alerted Patrick’s wife, Courtney, who immediately called 911. On the other end of the line was Wilbert, one of our emergency dispatchers, who quickly launched Engine 50 while providing Courtney with instructions until help arrived.

When Engine 50 arrived, Engineer/Paramedic Yorke and Firefighter/Paramedic Eckert immediately went to work, shocking Patrick’s heart and getting it beating again. Yesterday, Patrick and his family came to Station 50 to reunite with the team that helped save his life.

These reunions are incredibly special, and we don’t always get the opportunity to see someone again after meeting them on what may have been the worst day of their life. Patrick, Courtney, William, and the entire family, thank you for reaching out and coming back to see us. It means more than you know.

Looking into the future of wildland response in Orange County! 🔥

This morning, OCFA hosted a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the start of construction on the OCFA Wildfire Resource Center (WRC). The five-acre site, located in Rancho Mission Viejo, will serve as a centralized location for OCFA’s Hand Crew and Heavy Equipment Programs, strengthening year-round wildfire suppression, fuels reduction, and prescribed-fire operations.

The 30,000-square-foot facility will house up to 75 personnel and include a training classroom, administrative workspace, storage for wildfire equipment and apparatus, and more. The project was made possible in part through funding secured by Congressman Dave Min, helping bring this important investment in Orange County’s wildfire response capabilities to life.

We’re looking forward to watching this project take shape over the coming years and seeing the impact it will have on our wildfire response efforts.

Behind the scenes, OCFA, in collaboration with partner agencies, is quietly protecting Orange County—and we have the proof.

This season alone, a strategic fuel management project at OC Parks’ Caspers Wilderness Park directly stopped a wildfire in its tracks. In mid-July, sparks from a blown trailer tire ignited a fire along Ortega Highway. The flames hit our recently completed fuel break, halting forward progress. Crews contained it at just 0.10 acres, helping meet the State’s goal of keeping 95% of fires under 10 acres while protecting local open spaces.

Along Talega Ridge, the reestablishment of this critical line in April held against a massive 1,000-acre wildfire. It stopped a wall of flames from spreading into RMV, the Ortega Wilderness, and Rancho Carrillo.

Fuel management projects take immense planning, coordination, and resources. We are incredibly proud of our Heavy Equipment and Wildland personnel and grateful for our collaboration with partners such as OC Parks, the U.S. Forest Service, and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton (Department of Defense). Proactive investments today protect lives, property, and taxpayer dollars tomorrow.

Wildfire preparedness is a shared responsibility. Partnerships like these protect Orange County long before the first engine ever arrives.

🔥 Multiple Units Saved In Overnight Fire 🔥

Crews in San Juan Capistrano responded to a two-story strip center in the middle of the night after a fire broke out in one of the units.

Firefighters from the two-alarm response simultaneously searched the building for victims while attacking the fire, holding the blaze to the units of origin and preventing it from spreading to multiple neighboring businesses.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
