In the middle of the night, a resident with disabilities wandered away from her home and lost her way in the darkness. After her family reported her missing, our Drone as First Responder pilot began searching for her by air and quickly found her. The pilot kept her in sight while he contacted her family.

With the help of a Community Outreach Specialist who is a Mandarin translator, we coordinated a reunion, and the woman returned home safely. Technology and teamwork for the win!

- We're asking for your help in identifying this residential burglary suspect.

This person was seen on surviellance cameras entering unlocked garage doors to access vehicles parked inside. They have also been seen checking the door handles of mutiple vehicles parked on the street.

Two alleged mail thieves realized a little too late that if you’re going to commit a crime, make sure the address is not in the City of Irvine.

High above, our Drone as First Responder pilot spotted a suspicious truck with two occupants driving aimlessly through a residential neighborhood. Things got interesting when they were seen pulling up to a row of mailboxes and helping themselves to our Irvine residents’ mail. Apparently, they thought they could grab the goods and make a quick getaway, but unfortunately for them, they didn’t see the flying camera overhead keeping an eye on the situation. The truck didn’t get far before officers were on their way to intercept the pair.

It turns out this was one delivery that wasn’t going to fly. The suspects’ plans were officially stamped “RETURN TO SENDER” right back to jail with a little help from our officers on the ground and our DFR pilot in the sky. Nicholas James Hooper, 38, and Robert Patrick Zimmerman, 35, were arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail for various charges, including mail theft, identity theft, and conspiracy.

- Two people died in a fatal traffic collision that occurred on September 13 on Culver and Deerfield. Please visit IrvinePd.gov to read the full news release and an update. The following is a third update on the investigation.

The collision, separation of the vehicle, and fire caused extensive damage to the McLaren’s structure and electrical system. On Wednesday evening, the front section of the vehicle’s wreckage spontaneously ignited at a secured tow facility in Costa Mesa, which is contracted by the Irvine Police Department (IPD) to store collision vehicles.

Costa Mesa Fire and Rescue Investigators have been investigating the fire. Preliminary findings, supported by video surveillance, indicate the fire started spontaneously, with no person present or interacting with the vehicle when it ignited. We are releasing a section of the video footage showing the start of the fire. Other vehicles not related to this collision have been blurred out. Please note the footage is sped up.

- A woman died after a two-vehicle traffic collision.   
  
On Thursday, October 15, at 9:06 P.M., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to a traffic collision in the intersection of Harvard Avenue and Paseo Westpark.  
  
Officers found a 2009 Toyota Corolla and a 2023 Mercedes S680 in the intersection with heavy collision damage.  
  
 
Effat Setayeshgar Tinoosh, an 83-year-old woman from Tustin, who was the driver of the Toyota, was transported to the Orange County Global Medical Center, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.  
  
The driver of the Mercedes, Adam Gabriel Canchola, 28, of La Quinta, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Additional charges may follow as the investigation continues. 
  
The Irvine Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating this collision. Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or has any further information is asked to contact Detective Gallegos at [email protected].

Irvine Police Detectives are investigating the s*xual assault of a minor and are concerned there may be more victims.

The 25-year-old suspect contacted a 13-year-old victim via Snapchat and began chatting with her while posing as a 17-year-old. The two met at an Irvine park in July, where the victim had a s*xual encounter with the man. We began investigating the incident when it was reported last month.

On October 1, 2026, IPD detectives arrested Juan Carlos Amaya in Baldwin Park. He was booked at the Orange County Jail.
This afternoon, the Orange County District Attorney's Office advised that Amaya was charged with four offenses:

1) PC 288(a)- Lewd act upon a child under 14
2) PC 311.4(c)- Using a minor for s*x acts
3) PC 311.11(a)(1)- Possession and control of child po*******hy
4) PC 288.3(a)- Contacting a child with intent to commit specified crime

During the investigation, Detectives uncovered evidence that Amaya has been communicating with other minors on Snapchat, asking them to engage in s*xual acts for the exchange of money or vapes.

Amaya used the profile names of "amayaaajr" or "chamgagnealex_8" on Snapchat. We are asking anyone who may have similar interactions with Amaya or further information on this case to contact Detective Robinson at [email protected].
