The annual Mayor and Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) Awards ceremony was held on August 3 at the Jack D. Huffman Community Building. Guests entered the venue to the sounds of beautiful harp music provided by Becky Scherschell. After being greeted and signed in by Elouise McMillian and Rachel Moon, they enjoyed the appetizer buffet catered by April Myrick of The Colonels Cooking. T.J. Friedel served as photographer, and Southern Petals and Pour provided tabletop floral arrangements. Irving Community Television Network was present to interview guests for a future story. Attendees also had the opportunity to tour the Irving Archives and Museum prior to the ceremony.

KIB President Jim Scrivner began the ceremony by providing a brief overview of KIB’s accomplishments, including the President’s Circle Award from Keep America Beautiful, and the Gold Star and Sustained Excellence Awards from Keep Texas Beautiful. He also paid tribute to three members of the KIB family who had passed away during the past year – Karen Harmon, Sammy Romero and Margie Stipes.

Cathy Whiteman returned as emcee for the fifteenth consecutive year, and Honorary Chair Mayor Al Zapanta presented the following awards:

Youth Leadership Award: Serving Our Community Organization – North Hills Preparatory
Educator Award: Justin Magers – Uplift Infinity Preparatory
Educator Award: Neil Kaufman - Dallas College North Lake Campus
Business and Industry Award: Abbott Laboratories
Faith Group Award: Christ Church
Nonprofit Award: Irving Schools Foundation
Government Award: City of Irving Sign Shop
Civil Servant Award: Fire Marshal Haley Harsha, Irving Fire Department
KIB Hometown Award: Mark Zeske
Margie Stipes Lifetime Achievement Award: Susan Young Newman

“Everyone at KIB looks forward to this event,” said Scrivner. “We feel that it is important to recognize our volunteers and partners and let them know how much they mean to KIB and its mission.”

Thank you, Flowserve employee volunteers for assembling 50 personal care kits and delivering them to our office today! This was part of Flowserve's Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. There were 30 employees who took the time to put these kits together, and KIB will work with local organizations to see that they get to those who need them. Great job, Flowserve!

KIB had a great time this morning, along with the Irving Parks and Recreation Horticulture Team at Mustang Park Recreation Center. The summer campers learned about pollinators and plants that attract them. Then each camper chose their own plant from three different varieties to pot and take home to care for. We are on to Georgia Farrow on Wednesday!

Did you know Irving spends nearly $1 million every year cleaning up trash.💸 Yep. Littering has a price tag. And it ain't cheap! Using a trash can is free. Do the math.

Thank you, City of Irving, Texas - City Hall ICTN for a great story on the Great American Cleanup!

Looking for a volunteer opportunity? Our friends at the University of Dallas are having their "Big Event" soon, and you can sign up with the link included here.

Crusaders don't just study the good — they go out and do it.

On Saturday, May 2, the University of Dallas community is heading out into Irving for The Big Event, our largest annual day of community service.

Now in its sixth year, The Big Event brings together students, faculty, staff and volunteers to help Irving residents with household and yard work. Last year, more than 250 volunteers served over 50 households.
