Can employers require a negative COVID-19 test before you return to work? Depends on where you live - Dallas Business Journal

As Dallas County employers begin to plan to return to the office, many are navigating how to do so safely. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins has released guidance for employers, which bars them for requiring employees to provide a negative COVID-19 prior to returning to work and instead recommends that employers rely on the symptom-based (non-test based) strategy. You can find more information on Judge Jenkins’ orders here: https://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/news/2020/06/30/require-negative-covid-test-work.html

Employers can't require negative tests in Dallas County, but Parkland Hospital is reporting seeing many people in line to get tested for COVID-19 for that reason.

Free at Last: A Juneteenth Poem

On January 1, 1863, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. It took more than two years for the news to reach those enslaved in Texas. The Irving-Las Colinas Chamber is committed to continuing to fight and lead change to achieve racial equality for all.

June 2, we are participating in #BlackOutTuesday.

Recent national events have been disturbing to us all, as they do not represent the attitudes and priorities of our City, business community, residents and workforce. We take great pride in the diversity of Irving-Las Colinas, and consider it to be one of our most important strengths as a community. However, the grief and unrest we’ve seen this past week is a reminder of our responsibilities and that more work must be done to truly be an inclusive society.

Yesterday, we partnered with Via Reál Restaurant and Celanese Corporation to provide meals to our local healthcare workers at Medical City Las Colinas and Baylor Scott & White Health.

Today, we had the privilege of partnering with the Irving Chamber to deliver over 800 lunches to front line workers at Baylor, Scott and White Irving and Medical City Las Colinas. I’m so proud of the long hours put in by our kitchen staff to prep this many lunches! It took 6 cars total to deliver individually prepared meals complete with chips and salsa for everyone! It’s one small way we are happy to give back to those in our community who are giving so much! Thanks for all you do!
