**SWIM ADVISORY IN EFFECT**
Water sample testing at 16 Seneca Nation recreational waterway sites began the week after Memorial Day and will take place weekly until Labor Day. The water samples are analyzed for elevated contaminants that may pose a threat to human health.
Results from the samples collected on 6/22/2026 indicate that the bacteria levels were above the recommended limits for recreational use at the FOLLOWING listed waterway locations:

ALLEGANY TERRITORY
Vandalia Bridge
Junction Boat Launch
Main St. Bridge
Highbanks
Hillview

CATTARAUGUS TERRITORY
Pinewoods Beach
Aldrich St. Ext.
Newtown Beach
North Branch of Clear Creek (Taylor Hollow)
Castile Creek (Burning Springs Rd)
Thruway Bridge
Catt. Creek Harbor
**It is recommended that you do not ingest or submerge yourself in the above-listed waters at this time.**

NO ADVISORIES for the following:
Allegany-Indian Park, Twin Ponds, or Bear Claw
Cattaraugus-Nation Beach

Additionally, keep in mind that recreational activities such as swimming (submersion) should be avoided in all environmental waters (creeks, streams, beaches) for 72 hours following a storm event. Elevated bacterial levels can persist after a rainstorm, depending on the storm's intensity, runoff volume, and current water conditions.
Please get in touch with the Seneca Nation, Environmental Protection Department at (716) 532-2546 or email [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.

The Seneca Nation Transfer Station on the Cattaraugus Territory will be opening later this month, May 2026. The Transfer Station is a centralized location where community members can safely drop off waste & large items for proper disposal and recycling. The Transfer Station is important to our community as it prevents illegal dumping, which impacts our environment, and offsets the cost of expensive large item disposal. Here is some helpful information to get our community up to speed on what to expect, such as:

These standards define the Nation’s designated uses, including, fishing, gathering, cultural and ceremonial practices, subsistence activities, aquatic life, source water protections, and recreation and sets the protective pollutant thresholds necessary to uphold those uses.
