Irvington, NJ Rescue Squad A division of the Office of Emergency Management. Manned by a fully volunteer staff. Primary function was citywide public safety. Currently inactive.

Irvington Volunteer Rescue Squad proudly protected approximately 60000 people living in an area of 3 square miles. We operated out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. We organized in 1934 and were the only all volunteer emergency medical provider unit remaining in our township. We had 35 active memb

ers, we operated one 1990 walk-in International medium fully equiped rescue truck and one first responder vehicle. Are tour of duty was as follow: Monday - Thursday 18:00hrs - 08:00 hrs and around the clock from Friday 18:00hrs - Sunday 08:00hrs. Our officers: one Chief, two Deputy Chief's, two Captains and five Lieutenants All officers had to be certified in: Heavy Rescue, EMT, and pass a In-House Officers Rescue Course All members had to be certified in: Vehicle Rescue and First Responder minimun within the first year of membership. We were dispatched to motor vehicle accidents and medical incidents by the Police Department. We were dependent of the Township for funding. Although inactive, we are still part of the Office of Emergency Management.
