🎒🚸 BACK TO SCHOOL, IRVINGTON! 🚸🎒

The first day of school is Thursday, September 3rd! As our students head back to school, the Irvington Police Department reminds everyone that school safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Whether you’re walking, driving, or waiting for the bus, please take a few extra seconds to keep our kids safe:

🚶 WALKING TO SCHOOL
• Use sidewalks and designated pedestrian crossings whenever possible.
• Stay alert and put phones and other distractions away when crossing the street.
• Make eye contact with drivers before stepping into the roadway.
• Walk, don’t run, when crossing streets.

🚸 CROSSWALK SAFETY
• Drivers: STOP and yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk.
• Pedestrians: Look both ways and make sure traffic has stopped before crossing.
• Never assume a driver sees you.

🚌 SCHOOL BUS SAFETY
• When a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing, STOP!
• Never pass a stopped school bus loading or unloading children.
• Give buses plenty of room and expect children to be crossing the street.

🚗 DRIVER SAFETY
• Slow down in school zones and residential areas.
• Watch carefully for children walking, biking, and crossing streets.
• Avoid distractions while driving.
• Give yourself extra time in the morning—being late is never a reason to rush.

👮 The Irvington Police Department will maintain a presence at our schools throughout the school year and will assist with pedestrian safety at designated crossings.

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from the Irvington Police Department! 🇺🇸

Today we celebrate the birth of our nation and 250 years of the freedoms, values, and opportunities that unite us as Americans.

As we gather with family, friends, and neighbors, we honor the brave men and women, past and present, who have defended our nation’s liberty and those who continue to serve our communities every day.

From all of us at the Irvington Police Department, we wish you a safe, joyful, and memorable Fourth of July. Please celebrate responsibly, look out for one another, and help keep our community safe.

At last week’s Village Board Meeting, the Irvington Police Department proudly recognized several members for their outstanding service during the 2026 Police Awards Ceremony and celebrated the promotion of one of our officers to Detective.

While these awards highlight specific incidents and accomplishments, they represent only a small portion of the exceptional work our officers perform every day. Each shift, our members respond to calls for service, assist residents during difficult moments, support one another, and work tirelessly to keep Irvington a safe and strong community.

⚠️ COMMUNITY ADVISORY – COYOTE ACTIVITY ⚠️

The Irvington Police Department has received several reports of coyote sightings throughout the Village over the past several days. Some of the reports received today indicated that the coyote was becoming increasingly brazen and exhibiting behavior that has raised concern among residents.

Officers responded to the reported locations and conducted area canvasses, but were unable to locate the animal.

Unfortunately, this evening, the Police Department received a report from a resident that their dog was attacked by a coyote within the Village. Officers responded to the area, but the coyote had already fled prior to their arrival.

We urge all residents to exercise caution, particularly during the early morning and evening hours when coyotes are most active. Pets should be closely supervised at all times and brought indoors whenever possible. Residents are also reminded not to leave pet food, garbage, or other attractants outside.

If you observe a coyote in the Village, please contact the Irvington Police Department immediately so that officers can respond and assess the situation.

A great night at Yankee Stadium for some of our officers this past Friday (even though they lost)!

As part of our Officer Wellness Program, members of the department had the opportunity to enjoy a Yankees game, spend time together outside of work, and recharge from the daily demands of law enforcement.

Programs like this are made possible through the NY CaresUP grant, which supports officer wellness initiatives and helps agencies prioritize the health and well-being of their members.

We're grateful for the support and for opportunities that strengthen camaraderie, boost morale, and remind us of the importance of taking care of those who serve our community every day.

Today, the Irvington Police Department hosted a “Coffee with a Cop” event on Main Street in front of Police Headquarters. ☕🚓

It was a great opportunity to connect with members of our community, share conversations over coffee, and continue strengthening the relationship between the police department and the residents we proudly serve.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by today. We love our community and look forward to hosting more events like this in the future!
