Saturday, July 11, 2026 — Part 2 of 2 — Azalea City Model Aeronautics annual Summer Fly-in.
We had the HobbyTown gift cards and airplane raffle after a wonderful lunch, cooked by our Club Chef, Ed Daniels. Terry Green from Crestview won the Pitts biplane. Congratulations! — Lucky Kenny won three gift cards and turned them back in to be redrawn. He also won the $50.00 gift card, which he gave to Oliver! Thank you, Kenny!
Sinh Nguyen really likes the Airbus he acquired from Jesse, but during one flight we heard some flutter, causing him to have to land. He came in hot and ran off the north end of the runway. The rudder control horn had broken or had come loose, causing the flutter. He repaired it and flew it again. All went well.
Mike Sauls brought his awesome Viper turbine jet. It's large, and piloted by Magic Mike, who can wave and turn his head. No, I am not talking about Mike, I'm talking about the pilot figurine in the cockpit! The pilot's uniform and the cockpit are very detailed. The jet has smoke too, and it is dense and showed up great.
Combat was probably the best ever! There were no surviving airplanes. In the last round only Andrew and Oliver were left. Oliver was flying Jimmy’s Conscendo and Andrew an Me-109. They had a pretty hard midair! Rob determined that Oliver was the overall winner. Again, I should add… He won a $25.00 HobbyTown gift card. Oliver has won the last three combat events in a row, if I recall.
Tiago Cabral flew his bright orange F-16 turbine jet. It’s fast! — Richard Bosco took pictures with his long-lensed camera and flew his helicopter and 3D plane. — Kenny flew his Extra-330. — Jesse flew his blue and yellow classic Thundercoupe. I think he likes it.
Here’s a reminder that Huckin’ The Bowl is coming up on August 6-8. Hosted by the Mississippi Coast RC Club in Gulfport, Mississippi. Kenny is the President there. Let’s support them by participating in their fly-in. It’s usually a big one!
On August 22nd ACMA will have our new event, the Auction & Fly-in, on August 22nd. The Auction portion is from 9:00 to 1:00 to collect donated items for the benefit of our club, with an eye toward facility improvements. So if you have “stuff” lying around your hobby room, shed, garage or attic, bring them on! Just remember if your items don’t sell you must take them back home with you!
The fly-in part, after the auction is over, is a bit different from the usual. It is very low-key, there is no registration fee, no food will be available, and there will be no gift card raffle and no airplane raffle. Soft drinks, water, and snacks will be available. No flying while the auction is going on!
There are a couple events coming up soon:
- ACMA Sailplane Fly-in - September 12. For gliders only. A tow plane will be available for your use. No flyer yet.
- ACMA Veterans Memorial Warbird Fly-in - November 14. This will be a two-day, AMA-sanctioned event. We’ll have awards to be announced later. No flyer yet.
