Today, on World Hunger Day, we are reminded that hunger is not just about food. It is about access, stability, and opportunity.

At TPCS, we do our part every day by supporting women and families facing homelessness and crisis. Through safe housing, trauma-informed care, and access to essential services, we help families regain stability and build pathways toward long-term independence, because no one should have to choose between safety and their next meal.

Ending hunger requires all of us. Here are a few ways you can make an impact:
• Support local food banks and community organizations
• Volunteer your time or skills
• Donate essential items or funds to nonprofits serving vulnerable families
• Advocate for policies that expand access to housing, food, and healthcare
• Check in on neighbors and community members who may need support

Together, small actions can create lasting change. Let’s continue to show up, for our communities, for our neighbors, and for families working toward a better future.

We recently welcomed the Board of Directors and Executive Team from The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey for a tour of our facility updates and the opportunity to share our work firsthand. It truly was such an engaging and meaningful discussion, and we appreciated the Board’s thoughtful questions, valuable feedback, and eagerness to further support our mission.

During their visit, they saw how our space supports up to 24 families at a time through emergency housing, along with offices for our clinical and supportive services and housing assistance program teams, a commercial kitchen, education and training spaces, a pantry, and on-site laundry facilities that help mothers focus on caring for their families.

Over the past two years, The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey has played a critical role in helping us launch our clinical and supportive services division, with a strong focus on expanding mental health services. Their support made it possible to build this department from the ground up.

We are deeply grateful for their partnership and continued commitment, and we look forward to another impactful year working together to strengthen families and our community.

📣📣 We are sending a huge shout out to the amazing students of the Union Middle School Honor Society for their incredibly generous donation to TPCS!

These thoughtfully prepared baskets, graciously accepted by Ms. T on our behalf, were filled with essential items such as menstrual hygiene products, toiletries and so much more. Every single item will go directly to support the families we serve at Servants House, our emergency shelter, bringing comfort, dignity, and care when it is needed most.

👏👏 Let’s give a big round of applause to these outstanding young leaders for their dedication to academic excellence and their inspiring commitment to giving back to the community. Their compassion and generosity truly shine and will make a meaningful difference in the lives of families in need.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and love of every mother, including the incredible women in our shelter who are working every day toward a brighter future for themselves and their families.

Motherhood does not pause in the face of hardship. The mothers we serve continue to show up for their children with courage and determination, even while navigating the challenges of homelessness. They are building new paths forward by attending meetings, setting goals, supporting one another, and taking meaningful steps toward independence.

Their journeys are not easy, but they are powerful. Behind every small step is a deep commitment to creating a better life for their children.

Within our space, they find moments to breathe, to plan, and to rebuild. With access to private bedrooms, shared kitchens, laundry, and supportive services, they are creating structure and stability while preparing for what comes next.

Today, we honor them, not just for being mothers, but for their perseverance, their hope, and their unwavering love.

We are also deeply grateful for the support of our community. Your encouragement and generosity help make these journeys possible and remind these families that they are not alone.

To every mother, in every circumstance, we see you, we honor you, and we wish you a day filled with appreciation and care 💐

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the importance of emotional well-being and its impact on every part of life.

For the mothers and families we serve, the journey often begins with uncertainty. Many arrive feeling overwhelmed, facing homelessness, fear, and depression, making it difficult to see a path forward.

With the support of our dedicated staff, healing and growth become possible. Through clinical care, housing assistance, and daily encouragement, our team helps create a safe, supportive space where mothers can rebuild, regain confidence, and move toward stability.

Step by step, they are working toward healthier mindsets, stronger connections, and a future grounded in independence.

This month, we honor their strength and the commitment of those who support them. Together, we are building pathways to healing, stability, and lasting change.

We have a graduate at TPCS 🎉

TPCS is more than just an emergency shelter. It is a place where resilience is nurtured and futures are rebuilt.

With permission to share. This incredible mom of one has faced challenges that many could hardly imagine. She has overcome violence, homelessness, and deep trauma, yet she refused to give up on herself or her future. Before coming to us, she spent years moving from place to place, searching for stability. She made the courageous decision to take a different path.

Since then, she has built confidence, completed a clinical medical assistant program, and taken strong steps toward employment and stable housing. Just the other day, she celebrated her graduation with a clear plan for what comes next. Her sweet handsome little boy is thriving, and together they are creating a brighter, more positive future.

Stories like hers remind us that with the right support, determination can turn into lasting change.

TPCS proudly stands alongside our valued partner, Wynona’s House, in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Although not all of our team members were able to be present for the group photo, we joined together in spirit by wearing blue to raise awareness and demonstrate our shared commitment to protecting children.

We proudly support women and families on their journeys toward independence and stability through emergency housing and comprehensive wraparound services.

This month, and every month, we remain committed to building a community where children are safe, families are strong, and survivors have the opportunity to reclaim their childhood. Together, we can make a meaningful difference 💙

What being a ‘Safe Stop on the Way Home’ means at TPCS

At Turning Point Community Services, every family’s journey begins with dignity, compassion, and a plan.

When a mother and her children enter our emergency shelter, we start with a thoughtful intake process. We take time to understand her story, her immediate needs, and her goals for the future. From there, each family is settled into their own private bedroom and provided with essentials like food, clothing, and personal care items so they can begin to exhale and feel safe.

Next, we build out a comprehensive profile that helps guide our work together. Through individualized service plans and case management, we partner with each mother to identify barriers, strengths, and opportunities. Together, we develop clear strategies and practical steps designed to move her from crisis to stability.

For some mothers, that means securing employment, saving money, and successfully transitioning into permanent housing of their own. For others, it may mean reuniting with supportive family or friends in a stable environment. In certain situations, it may involve transitioning to another type of shelter or program that better fits their needs at that time.
No two paths are identical but every path is guided with intention, compassion, support, and respect.

At TPCS, our goal is not just to provide temporary shelter. It is to help families take the First Step toward safe, supportive, and secure housing with the tools and confidence to sustain it.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a time to speak truth, break silence, and remind survivors that healing is possible 💜

The TPCS team works every day with mothers and families rebuilding their lives through emergency housing and wraparound support. For many survivors of sexual assault, the trauma does not stay in the past. It can impact mental and physical health, housing stability, relationships, employment, and parenting.

Many survivors carry shame, fear, or the belief that they should “just move on.” If you were sexually assaulted and never sought help, you are not alone. Trauma without support can quietly shape your decisions, your confidence, and your sense of safety for years.

Seeking support can change your trajectory.

👉 It can help you process what happened in a safe, confidential space.
👉 It can reconnect you with your strength and sense of control.
👉 It can break cycles that impact your family.
👉 It can remind you that what happened to you is not your fault.

“Healing does not take place in isolation, we cannot move from pain to power in isolation” - bell hooks

Asking for help is not failure. It is courage. At TPCS, we believe survivors deserve stability, dignity, and comprehensive care. Whether through housing, clinical services, or community connection, support can be the turning point.

If you or someone you know needs help, reach out to the NJ Coalition Against Sexual Assault at https://njcasa.org/find-help/

Your story does not end with what happened to you.
