McKenney family, Theater of the Sea is one of the oldest marine mammal facilities and a pioneer in animal interactive programs. The 17-acre property of lagoons and lush, tropical gardens is home to a variety of animals including Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, California sea lions, sea turtles, sharks, rays, crocodilians, fishes, invertebrates, and birds.

This we’re shining the spotlight on the green sea turtle 🐢

In October of 2025, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) reclassified the global green sea turtle population from “endangered” to “least concern.” This monumental shift in classification is an incredible win for conservation.

Today, and everyday we are proud to care for a variety of rescued animals, many of them being sea turtles. However, some of these species are still listed as “critically endangered.” We hope that your visit to our park leaves you inspired to continue protecting animals and the environment. This positive step in the right direction for green sea turtle populations demonstrates that our small, consumer choices can have a huge impact on the ocean and all of its inhabitants.
