via Illinois Policy - On the same day they passed a bill hiking Illinois’ gas tax burden to the second-highest in the nation, Illinois state lawmakers also passed a $1,600 pay raise for themselves.
At nearly $69,000 a year, Illinois lawmakers already take home the fifth-highest base salary in the nation for what is technically a part-time job – not including $10,000 stipends for committee chairs. And Illinoisans already bail out lawmakers’ pension fund to the tune of millions of dollars per year.
