Heat Wave Expands Today

Hot temperatures will expand across a bit more of the state today, with high temperatures ranging from around 90 to the mid 90’s likely across all of Central and Southern Illinois.

Heat indices will increase a bit as well, with highest peak values around 100° across portions of Western and Southwestern Illinois.

Extended Heat Wave Begins Today

A heat wave will begin across portions of the state today, with high temperatures in the low to mid 90’s expected across portions of Central and all of Southern Illinois.

While hot temperatures are expected, heat indices will stay in check today, running at levels not too much higher than the actual temperature.

This heat wave will continue through much of this upcoming week across the southern half of the state, perhaps flexing into the northern half of the state at times.

Severe Weather Threat Today/Tonight

*Wednesday Morning Update*

In the wake of some showers/t’storms that traversed portions of Northern and Southern Illinois earlier this morning, the focus now turns towards this afternoon into tonight.

Widely scattered t’storms will develop along an advancing cold front this afternoon across portions of Central and Southern Illinois. This activity will then track southeastward across these areas through tonight. Some of this activity may be severe across portions of Eastern and Southern Illinois, isolated in coverage.

The trend within weather guidance overnight and this morning has been downward, with what was an already low threat (level 1) for severe weather now looking closer to a non-zero threat.

Severe Weather Threat Wednesday/Wednesday Night

As a storm system moves through the region, a severe weather threat will return to the state on Wednesday.

A few showers/t’storms will be possible across portions of Northern Illinois on Wednesday morning, along and ahead of an advancing cold front. Additionally, a few showers/t’storms may also be possible on Wednesday morning across portions of Southwestern Illinois.

The main focus, however, will be Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night. T’storms will develop along an advancing cold front on Wednesday afternoon across portions of Central Illinois. This activity will then track southeastward, across portions of Central and Southern Illinois through Wednesday night. Some of this activity may be severe across portions of Central and Southern Illinois, generally isolated coverage.
