School is back in session and this is a School Bus Safety Reminder

📵Stay off your phones all the times (as it is the law)
🚸Yellow flashing lights is to yield and prepare to stop.
👀Check the area as the children enter and exit the bus
🛑Red flashing lights means you STOP. Do not proceed until the arm is retracted and lights stop flashing.

Proceed with caution

-Two-lane roads: All vehicles must stop in both directions when a school bus has its stop sign extended and red lights flashing.

-Four-lane roads: Vehicles only need to stop if the bus is in their lane.

Passing a stopped school bus with its stop sign extended and red lights flashing is illegal and can result in a ticket and possible license suspension for repeat violations.

What's NEW in our lobby?

FREE BOOKS!

We have been given a large donation of gently used books. So we thought what can we do with these? We decided to allow you to come and take books for your home library and no need to return them.

Our lobby is open 24 hours and once the stash gets low we will replenish with more. Children books are on the top and adult books on the bottom. The selection will have new books often as this was a very generous size donation.

All children age levels, and different types for adults, including hobbies, recipe books and novels.

From all of us at the Island Lake Police Department we want to say thank you for coming to National Night Out. It was a huge success and we couldn't have done it without YOU!!!

We met some old residents, current residents and even new ones coming to live here. It was a pleasure to see all the happy faces!

Come to the FREE Event where you pay don't pay for a thing and get to have the fun. There will be free samples from Monarch Elevated Classics, free books, free food and water or soda, meet some of your local first responders, and contests for the kiddos

We are saddened about the recent accidents in the surrounding areas with E-Bikes. And we give our condolences to the families, who lost their son, nephew, and grandson.

The Village of Island Lake has a Local Ordinance for these devices. It is up to driver's to not be distracted and cautious of all the roadway at all times. It is also important for the rider's and/or guardians to the rider's, of the E-Bikes/Motor Driven Cycles/E-Scooters to know the ordinance as it is effective in our Village and soon to be a state law. At night, though not an ordinance you may want to add safety measures such as a bright safety vest. Safety helmets and lighting is strongly recommended.

If you see someone in violation, please call 847-526-2100 and select dispatch, so an officer can respond and speak with them. Do not wait until the next day to report it as the officer has a better chance of finding the individual at the time it is occurring.

The driver's of these devices are to only ride on the street, not on sidewalks, not in bike lanes, and not on bike paths.

🚲E-Bikes – Must have operating pedals. Prohibited on sidewalks, Class I and Class II are allowed on roadways. Must follow rules of the road and speed limits. Class 3 requires operator to be 16 years or older.
🛵Motor driven cycle - Every motorcycle and every motor scooter with less than 150 cubic centimeter piston displacement including motorized pedal cycles. E-motorcycles and e-minibikes in this category. This requires a DL, Registration and Insurance.
🛴E-Scooter – Prohibited on sidewalks, state highways and any road 35mph or over. Must be 18 to operate.

Valid state-issued driver's license
Be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D. equivalent
