Safe Kids Charleston Area - will be hosting a car seat check up event on Friday, August 7th from 10am-12pm at Summerville Fire Station #3 (1701 Old Trolly Rd, Summerville, SC 29485).

🚒 Training for the moments that matter.

Recently, members of the City of Isle of Palms Fire Department participated in hands-on vehicle extrication training at LKQ, sharpening the skills needed to safely rescue occupants involved in serious motor vehicle collisions.

Training in a controlled environment allows our firefighters to practice the latest extrication techniques, improve teamwork, and maintain proficiency with specialized rescue equipment. Continuous training ensures we’re prepared to respond quickly and effectively when every second counts.

A special thank you to LKQ for providing the vehicles and supporting our commitment to emergency preparedness and public safety.

Today, we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy and honor those who have served and sacrificed for our country.

As you enjoy time with family and friends, remember to celebrate safely:

🎇 Leave fireworks to the professionals.

🔥 Keep grills away from homes, decks, and anything combustible.

💧 Stay hydrated and take breaks from the heat.

🌊 Swim near lifeguards and always keep a close eye on children around the water.

🚤 Wear a life jacket while boating and never operate a boat under the influence.

🚑 Call 911 immediately in an emergency.

🌊 Rip Currents Can Be Deadly — Know Before You Go! 🌊

A beautiful beach day can quickly become dangerous if you’re caught in a rip current.

🏖️ Stay Safe:

• Always swim near a lifeguard.

• Know the beach warning flags before entering the water.

• Never swim alone.

• If caught in a rip current, stay calm, don’t fight it.

•Swim parallel to the shore until you’re out of the current, then head back to the beach. If you can’t escape, float, tread water, and wave for help.

🚨 Remember: Rip currents pull you away from shore—not underwater. Knowing what to do can save your life.

Nothing says summer like a backyard cookout, but a few simple precautions can help prevent fires and injuries.

Before you grill:

✅ Keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your home, deck, or anything that can burn.

✅ Never leave a hot grill unattended.

✅ Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from the grilling area.

✅ Clean grease and fat buildup regularly to reduce the risk of flare-ups.

✅ Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it.

Let’s keep the holiday full of great food, family, and fun—not emergency calls.
