Our hearts are heavy tonight following the tragic events in Columbia.

The men and women of the Isle of Palms Police Department extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Christopher DeLong, who was killed in the line of duty earlier today.

We also support Officer Dymock, who was shot during this incident as he recovers from his injuries.

We stand with the men and women of the Columbia Police Department during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, Officer DeLong. Your service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

What is Saturation Saturday?
Saturation Saturday was first launched in Missouri in 2016 as a night of increased law enforcement patrols and safety checkpoints designed to reduce incidents of drunk or drug-impaired driving.

The Isle of Palms Police Department is joining MADD South Carolina and law enforcement agencies across the country for Saturation Saturday on August 29th.
As we head into Labor Day weekend, IOPPD officers will be conducting increased patrols with a focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers from our roadways.

If you plan to drink, don’t drive. Designate a sober driver, arrange for a ride, or stay where you are.
Consider this your warning. IOPPD will be out looking for impaired drivers.

Help us keep Isle of Palms safe. Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Charleston County schools are back tomorrow, and so is Operation Safe Stop.

Last school year, more than 16 drivers were cited for illegally passing stopped school buses.

Our officers will be watching bus routes and stops before and after school.

When the bus stops, YOU stop!

Congratulations to Detective Ben Mize on being named the Isle of Palms Police Department’s Employee of the Quarter for the second quarter.

While much of his work happens behind the scenes, Detective Mize has made a significant impact by streamlining our evidence processing procedures and eliminating backlogs in evidence testing. Through his hard work, evidence is now being submitted and tested more efficiently, helping ensure our officers have the forensic results they need to build stronger cases and support successful prosecutions.

His commitment to excellence strengthens our department every day. Please join us in congratulating Detective Mize on this well-deserved recognition.

Congratulations to Deputy Chief Kraig Thompson on graduating from the 24th Session of the Department of Homeland Security Leadership Academy at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia.

This 2 week nationally recognized program brings together law enforcement leaders from across the country to strengthen leadership, collaboration, and strategic decision-making in support of homeland security and public safety. Deputy Chief Thompson’s successful completion of the academy reflects his continued commitment to professional development and to serving the Isle of Palms community with excellence.

**** Waterway Boulevard is passable at this time as well****
