🚁 AVIATION EMERGENCY TRAINING ✈️

This morning, firefighters from River Delta Fire District participated in the highly sought-after Aviation Emergency First Responder Training sponsored by the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) and pro tired by pilot Andy McSunas.

This nationally recognized training is designed for all levels of first responders, including Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), pilots, mechanics, and even bystanders who may encounter an aircraft emergency scene.

The training focused on aircraft accident scene safety, identifying hazards associated with various aircraft types, and understanding the unique injuries commonly sustained by pilots and occupants during aviation incidents. The class also highlighted best practices for operating safely around aircraft emergencies and coordinating an effective response.

River Delta firefighters are committed to continuing education and specialized training opportunities to better serve our community and mutual aid partners and ensure preparedness for all types of emergencies.

River Delta Fire District recently hosted NWCG RADO (Radio Operator) training, providing personnel with critical instruction in incident communications, radio procedures, interoperability, and tactical support operations during all-hazard incidents and wildland fire responses.

The course focused on the vital role RADO personnel play in supporting Incident Command by maintaining effective communications between divisions, strike teams, overhead personnel, dispatch centers, and cooperating agencies during rapidly evolving incidents.

Students trained on:
• Tactical radio communications
• ICS-205 communications plans
• Emergency traffic procedures
• Multi-agency interoperability
• Incident documentation and logging
• Expanding incident communication systems during large-scale operations

Strong communications are a critical component of firefighter safety and incident management. Training opportunities like this continue to strengthen River Delta’s operational readiness and ability to support local, regional, and statewide incidents.

Thank you to all instructors, students, and partner agencies who helped make this training a success.

River Delta Fire District is currently on scene of a motor vehicle accident at Brannan Island Road and Highway 12. Two patients were evaluated, treated, and transported to Memorial Hospital for further care.

While en route to the incident, River Delta units encountered a second motor vehicle accident on Highway 12 East of Jackson Slough Road. Due to the additional emergency, mutual aid assistance was requested from Montezuma Fire Protection District to manage the second incident. Fortunately, all patients involved in the second collision sustained only minor injuries.

River Delta crews remain on scene assisting the California Highway Patrol with traffic control, roadway cleanup, and scene safety operations.

Please use caution while traveling in the area and expect delays along Highway 12.

WATER RESCUE TRAINING

Over the past 3 days, the River Delta Fire District proudly hosted a State Certification Rapid Engine Based Water Rescue course focused on building advanced water rescue capabilities for our firefighters and regional partners.

This hands-on training challenged students with realistic rescue scenarios involving moving water operations, victim retrieval, rescue board deployments, throw bag operations, engine-based rescue tactics, and coordinated team response under pressure.

We were honored to host two highly seasoned lifeguards from the EBRPD Lifeguard Service whose professionalism, experience, and instruction brought tremendous value to the course. Their real-world knowledge and commitment to responder safety greatly enhanced the training experience for all involved.

The training was a tremendous success and reflects River Delta Fire District’s continued commitment to preparedness, regional partnerships, and protecting our waterways and communities throughout the Delta.

Thank you to all instructors, students, and partner agencies who helped make this important training possible. A special shoutout to B & W resort and neighbors for hosting the location and helping us make it a great success.

RED FLAG WARNING
A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 5 AM Saturday through 8 PM Monday for gusty winds and low humidity across parts of Central California.

A Fire Weather Watch also remains in effect for the South Sacramento area as strong winds and critically dry conditions continue through the weekend.

Avoid anything that could spark a fire.

These conditions can cause fires to spread rapidly, especially in dry grass.

Today at Station 94, we had the honor of welcoming Philip Simi, son of the late Fire Chief Stan Simi, who proudly served this community and left a lasting legacy that is still felt today.

The crew from Engine 94 took a moment out of their training day to gather for a quick photo with Philip and spend time sharing stories about his father, growing up in the Delta, and the deep roots their family has in this community.

It was a meaningful reminder of how the fire service is built on tradition, relationships, and the people who came before us. We also had the opportunity to share with Philip the tremendous growth River Delta Fire District has made over recent years under Fire Chief Cutino’s leadership — from expanded regional partnerships and improved staffing, to the development of our training grounds and the continued investment in preparing the next generation of firefighters.

Chief Stan Simi’s legacy lives on through the stories, values, and dedication that continue to shape the fire service in our area today. We are grateful Philip stopped by to spend time with our crews and reconnect with the department.

Another great series.

River Delta Fire District Live Fire 3B Training

Great instructors. Great training. Strong work by everyone involved.

River Delta Fire District personnel participated in Live Fire 3B training, continuing to build the skills, discipline, and confidence required for real-world fireground operations. Live fire training places students under heat, smoke, limited visibility, and realistic fire conditions while reinforcing safety, communication, teamwork, and tactical decision-making.

The students showed true grit and determination throughout the training. They pushed themselves, stayed focused, and demonstrated the kind of commitment it takes to succeed in the fire service.

A special thank you to the instructors who brought their knowledge, experience, and leadership to the training ground. Quality instruction makes a difference, and this type of hands-on training helps ensure our firefighters are better prepared when our community needs us most.

Training never stops. Preparation matters.
