On August 16th just after 12pm, the Town of Islip Department of Public Safety received a call for a disabled boat in the Great South Bay near East Islip. Islip Town Harbor Patrol officers were dispatched and a Dept. of Public Safety Drone was also deployed. With assistance from the Drone Pilot, Islip Harbor Patrol Officers were able to quickly locate the vessel, assess the situation and render assistance.

The Islip Town Public Safety Drone Program is used in a variety of ways, some of which include bay and ocean beach patrols, search and rescue operations and post-storm damage assessment.

On July 6th at approximately 12:20pm, Town of Islip Harbor Patrol Officers Anthony Caroselli and Edward Caroselli were patrolling near the Bay Shore Marina when they observed a jet ski lose control and overturn. It forced all 3 occupants of the watercraft into the water. Our officers immediately jumped into action and pulled the 3 women to safety onboard a Harbor Patrol boat. Thankfully, all occupants of the jet ski were wearing personal flotation devices. After ensuring that no one was injured, the officers worked to upright the jet ski and tow the damaged vessel in to the marina. Our Harbor Patrol officers work tirelessly to ensure that our Islip Town beaches, marinas and waterways remain safe and enjoyable for all. Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved for a job well done!
