The Foundation is being dissolved. The Board of Directors felt that the Foundation has met its original mission of supporting the education of the orphans in Vietnam. Also, there has been a significant drop in donations to the Foundation over the last couple of years. In addition, with the Covid19 pandemic, we are unable to conduct fundraising activities like we have done in the past.
Founded in April, 2008, the William James Black Children’s Memorial Fund for the Sweet Water Foundation has supported the educational and survival needs of thousands of children around the world. The Foundation helped provide computer labs at an orphanage in Vietnam and in the Hephzibah Group Foster Home. It provided bicycles for children to get to school in Vietnam. It has provided school supplies and materials in Vietnam and Hephzibah. The Foundation has helped to provide back packs filled with food for children in DuPage County, Illinois through the Northern Illinois Food Bank. It has also helped provide food packs to children around the world through Feed My Starving Children. A newer project to provide speech services to children with apraxia through the Apraxia Connection was started. Other projects included C.A.R.E. for children with autistic disorders, Lamb’s Fold for homeless and abused women and children, and our project in Japan to help children after the tsunami. All in all, almost $145,000 has been distributed to our projects. None of this could have been done without you, our donors. Thank you very much. We will not be accepting any donations after December 1st, 2020. Donations made to the Foundation after that date will be returned.
We would like to thank our financial donors for supporting the Foundation during the twelve years of operation. Without your help, the thousands of children would not have had as many educational and survival materials available. Thank you.
We would like to thank our recycling donors for their support as well. Not only were you helping the children, but also the environment. Thank you.
We would like to thank those of you who participated in the fundraisers: the golf outings, Wendy’s, Buona Beef and Portillo’s nights out. Thank you.
We would like to thank Christine Nowland and CalGraphics for publishing our quarterly newsletter for many years. Thank you.
Also, a big thank you goes to our Board of Directors. The original directors were Miki and Brian Cunat, Betty and the late Mel Peterson and Pat and Bill Black. The current directors are Pat and Bill Black, Will Black, Sara and Alex Cole, Jenn and Steve Cunningham, Tina and Tony DeAngelis and Maxine Swanson and Honorary Trustee Lauren Black.
Even though the Sweet Water Foundation will no longer be operational after December 31, 2020, you can still donate directly to the following if desired:
1. Hephzibah Children’s Association, ATTN: Mary Beth Sheets, 1144 Lake St., Oak Park, IL 60301, hephzibahhome.org
2. Northern Illinois Food Bank, ATTN: Hester Bury, 273 Dearborn Ct., Geneva, IL 60134, solvehungertoday.org
3. Feed My Starving Children, ATTN: Marilyn Maurella, 740 Wiley Farm Ct., Schaumburg, IL 60173, fmsc.org
4. Apraxia Connection, ATTN: Michelle Grady Kowalski, 401 N. Catherine, LaGrange Park, IL 60526, TheApraxiaConnection.com
It is with mixed feelings for Pat and I, as original directors and parents of William James, that this is the end of the Foundation and the work it does. It was a hard decision to make, but one we and the Board felt necessary to make. We hope and pray that the organizations that the Foundation supported will continue to provide for the needs of children. God bless you all.

The mission of the Sweet Water Foundation is to financially support the education and well being of children wherever they live. Since our founding in April, 2008, ALL donations received have gone to our projects for children. You can find more information about The Sweet Water Foundation at our website.

This year we are struggling hard to achieve donations because of the "Corona Virus". We were unable to hold most of our public fundraisers due to the shutdowns across Illinois. For this reason, we have turned to the help of GoFundMe.

This year we are fundraising for several charities in order to help supply educational and survival needs of the children they support:

Nuoc Ngot Vietnam
Hephzibah Group Foster Home
Northern Illinois Food Bank
Feed My Starving Children
Apraxia Connection

We appreciate any donation you are able to give. ALL Funds Raised are sent to serve children, designated for educational purposes (supplies, materials, personnel, equipment) or survival purposes (food, shelter or health/hygiene supplies, not including medicines).

What a Spring this has been! What does this mean for the children supported by the Sweet Water Foundation? At the Hepzibah Group Foster Home, 25 children and 10 staff members are “sheltering in place”. The Home has requested meals be provided to the children and staff. Sweet Water has provided five of these meals ($1000) already. The Northern Illinois Food Bank continues to provide food to pantries and schools. Feed My Starving Children stopped using volunteers to send out “manna” packs to other countries thus cutting the number of packages being sent. In Vietnam, where the orphanage and school that we help sponsor are located, the Covid-19 pandemic has not been a major factor in the daily life of the people. Yet, the children there still need our support for necessities of survival.

Donations to the Sweet Water Foundation are tax deductible to the extent of the law. Since the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Not For Profit organization, your donation can also come from your RMD on your IRA or 401(k) and reduce your taxable gross income. Check with your financial advisor about this.

Donations may be sent to: Sweet Water Foundation, 107 W Washington St, Itasca, IL 60143. The Board realizes this is a difficult time for all of us and those we serve. We appreciate any donation, in any amount.

Thank you for your consideration.

The fundraising goal for the Foundation this year is $10,000. We are almost half way there—45%. We have five projects we are sponsoring this year: Hephzibah Foster Group Home in Oak Park, IL, Northern Illinois Food Bank Back Pack Program in DuPage County, NuocNgot school and orphanage in Hue, Vietnam, Feed My Starving Children, worldwide, and Lamb’s Fold serving homeless children in Illinois. All of our projects are geared for the education and survival of children wherever they live. You can help our children by making a donation, of any size, to the Foundation. You can send it to Sweet Water Foundation, 107 W. Washington St., Itasca, IL 60143. Your donation is greatly appreciated by the Foundation AND the children we serve.

Two New Projects for 2016

Feed My Starving Children packages and sends food to children in over 50 countries. This project fits in with our mission to provide survival needs to children no matter where they live. Our goal is to provide financial help to provide food for this program.

Our second new project is to provide financial assistance to purchase shoes for homeless children and associated with Lamb's Fold. Lamb's Fold is located in the western Chicago suburbs. Again, this fits in with our mission.

In addition, our other 3 projects are: Hephzibah Group Home in Oak Park, IL, the Back Pack program for Northern Illinois Food Bank, and our original project, the orphanage and school in Hue Vietnam.

Won't you help us with these projects by making a donation to Sweet Water? Simply send a check to Sweet Water Foundation, 107 W. Washington St., Itasca, IL 60143 in ANY amount. Your donation is tax deductible to the extent of the law and ALL OF IT goes to our projects. www.wjbsweetwaterfoundation.org

Northern Illinois Food Bank Project: Making sure kids like Jordan and his younger sister Grace have access to healthy food throughout the year is the focus of Northern Illinois Food Bank's Child Nutrition Department.
For the past six years, Jordan and Grace have had a home away from home at the York Community Resource Center in Lombard. In addition to being a safe place for kids from low-income families to do homework and play, the Resource Center also participates in the Food Bank's After-School and Summer Meal Programs.
"I always consider it a blessing to have the Resource Center available, but when I was raising my kids as a single mom, it made a huge difference," Sandra said. "And the food provided at the Resource Center is a big part of that. Knowing my kids are going to eat and be taken care of really gives me tremendous peace of mind."
Think of the Food Bank's child nutrition programs as a safety net for kids at risk of hunger, filling the gaps after the school day, over the weekend and during the summer when parents may struggle to make sure their children have enough to eat.
Thanks to the Food Bank's participation in the USDA's Summer Food Service Program, the Food Bank distributed 285,625 meals this past summer.
When school starts in the fall, the Food Bank hopes to continue providing after-school snacks or cold suppers at 155 participating sites for more than 6,500 children daily. The Food Bank also provides food-filled backpacks for 2,000 children each weekend through collaboration with 160 schools.
The BackPack program for DuPage, providing weekly food-filled backpacks for 163 children at 13 schools is one of the Projects for the Sweet Water Foundation.
