This is what it’s all about. Two months ago Red shift responded for a person in full cardiac arrest. The crew acted fast and were able to regain a pulse. The patient was immediately transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center and has made strides in his recovery. Yesterday, we were thrilled to spend time with him as he stopped by the firehouse! Local 3461 members and IFPD Trustees were out this morning assisting with handing out goods for the upcoming holidays at the Itasca Food Pantry. Local 3461 has bought turkeys for the holidays over the past 10 years or so to help make the holidays a little bit more enjoyable for folks that need it.

It is with heavy hearts that the Elk Grove Village Fire Department announces the passing of Fire Lieutenant Mark Pytlewicz. Lt. Pytlewicz was a dedicated member of our department for 22 years and held many duties including Company Officer, Technical Rescue Team, Honor Guard, and so much more.

To honor Lt. Pytlewicz, all fire stations will display bunting, and flags will be flown at half-staff. We ask that you keep his family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts during this difficult time.

On September 5th, 2024, Firefighter Jim Karp responded to a structure fire on the north side of Orland. Alongside his crew, Jim worked tirelessly, searching for victims and battling the blaze. A few shifts later, during a routine morning training session, Jim suddenly felt faint. He was in full gear
