More about the program:
This Ithaca Area Economic Development program focuses on workforce development in the manufacturing industry.
Direct to Work – Pathways to Manufacturing is an inclusive career initiative that helps un- and underemployed people access training programs and other resources and then earn entry-level jobs with Tompkins County manufacturers. Community partners work together to help participants address personal barriers to employment while equipping them with the technical and soft skills to be successful in the field.
Pathways to Manufacturing is a full-time, five-week training program that blends classroom instruction, team-building exercises, and hands-on experience. It is built on employer engagement: participants spend an entire day with each manufacturer during the program and after graduating, get an interview with their top choice. They also get a $1,000 stipend, OHSA-10 card, and can take the nationally recognized Certified Manufacturing Associate (CMfgA) exam.
Pathways to Manufacturing is a designated community-based pre-apprenticeship program through Tompkins Cortland Community College, part of the SUNY system.

Paid Training Opportunity (full time) in a Green Energy Home Remodeling/Carpentry/Construction Job!

Are you interested in a GREEN ENERGY career in carpentry but haven’t been able to get your foot in the door? Skipped over because you lack the skills or experience required to work for the top companies?
Tompkins Workforce Development has a very space-limited opportunity for Tompkins County job seekers to get paid training with a local business who supports a CLEAN ENERGY ECONOMY with their practices and product installation. If you are a Tompkins County job seeker who sincerely wants to find full-time, permanent work in carpentry/construction but don’t have all the skills you need, are willing to learn, have reliable private transportation (work sites are not always on or near bus routes), and the motivation to show up on time every day and give it your all, this opportunity may be for you. You will earn a paycheck while learning both in the classroom and on the job sites. Hard working, dependable students may be offered a job with the training company once classes end. Please note that permanent employment is not guaranteed following this training.
If this sounds like a good fit for you, please fill out the interest survey linked below. We will be reviewing the surveys and reaching out to applicants until the spots are filled. Again, space is very limited, so not everyone will be selected. If selected, you will need to complete the eligibility process and interview with a representative from the industry before final approval.
Here are the details:
Starting Date: Approximately 7/7, possibly 7/21.
End Date: TBD This opportunity will last approximately 8-10 weeks, with the possibility of permanent hire.
Location: Dryden area for the classroom training, Tompkins County area for job sites.
Pay Rate: $18.50 per hour paid bi-weekly, excluding lunch, holidays, or hours not worked.
Training Hours: 35-40 hours per week, M-F, day shift. Start and end times TBD.
Applicants must be Tompkins County residents and meet income and other criteria to take advantage of this opportunity. Must be ready, willing, and able to use this training to find full-time, permanent work.
