Today we remember Wendell Berry.

“And so I go into the woods. As I go in under the trees, dependably, almost at once, and by nothing I do, things fall into place,” he once wrote. “I enter an order that does not exist outside, in the human spaces. I feel my life take its place among the lives – the trees, the annual plants, the animals and birds, the living of all these and the dead – that go and have gone to make the life of the earth.”

Author and Kentucky native, who celebrated the farming world of his home state and warned of the excesses of industrial society, died at home

Love you, Wendell. Rest now. Your life has prepared our lives.

"Liberty Hyde Bailey, the influential horticulturist and educator often called the Father of American Horticulture, wrote that gardeners should cultivate 'that happy peace of mind which is satisfied with little.' That gentle spirit thrives in small gardening spaces throughout Marin County. Meaningful gardens are not defined by acreage, but by the relationship that gradually develops between garden and gardener. What is sometimes described as small-space gardening is a profoundly rewarding undertaking because every flower matters, every leaf matters, and every watering matters. In many ways, small-space gardening is a more intensive, intimate, and rewarding experience."

"I once asked an old gardener how much land he had and he said with pride that he had one acre; and he added, 'It is a wonderful acre; it reaches to the center of the earth in one direction and it takes in the stars in the other.'"
